  A crystallization of information and communication"s development, Internet has placed itself as a universal publicity method of 21st century. This is due to the unique features of Internet. With the features such as speedy transmission of information, low cost, interactiveness, and multimedia features that simultaneously include text, audio and video, it presented itself to public as an attractive method for publicity, hence the immovable position as the way of advertising.
  Moreover, compared to other media forms as TV and newspaper, the internet shows relative superiority regarding transmission speed of news, quality of contents, method of transmission and comprehensive interpretation on events. Internet surpasses TV and newspaper in its speed of communication. Unlike TV and newspaper which limits itself with broadcasting time and deadline, the internet is capable of throwing live information as soon as it happens.
  Furthermore, the internet surpasses the preexisting media in quantity and method of transmission of information. Users may obtain innumerable sources such as news editorial and netizen"s discussion and method of transmission is also varied from text, video to graphic. Also, search ability which finds the information on user"s preference is not possible in other forms of media.
  Another advantage posed by the internet is the ability to present its user with unfiltered variety of perspectives on events. Its users can easily find variety of perspectives ranging from opinions of individual netizen to of civil organization and to of other media organization.
  Because of these reasons, Islamic world began to use the internet for its publicity activity. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to find the characteristic and effects of such Islamic websites and IslamOnline, managed by Qatar, is used for the purpose of study. Because as Muslims themselves assert, IslamOnline could be said to be a website that best incorporates the fact that Islam"s characteristic is the universal system that generally comprehends the human lives.
  IslamOnline shows that Islam assimilates religion into everyday lives, develops it into practical guidance, and creates unique cultural and religious system with its own value system and thus provide services that were traditionally thought to be irrelevant with religion such as Fatwa services on everyday life concerns and health, hobby and such and with all these IslamOnline differentiates itself with other Islamic websites. Therefore, this thesis will talk about the relationship of Islam and the internet and its effect and limitation the website poses on the multi-cultural world.
