몰입 이론으로 본 듀이의 미적 경험

국문 초록

  본 연구는 듀이의 미적 경험을 몰입 이론을 통하여 탐색하는 것이었다. 몰입과 듀이의 미적 경험이 가지는 속성들이 일대 일로 정확하게 대응되는 것은 아니나, 두 경험은 상당한 유사성을 가지고 있으며 특히 주관적 상태의 질적인 측면에서 같은 속성을 공유하는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 보다 큰 틀에서 정리해 보면, 두 경험 모두 첫째, 세계를 즉각적, 직접적으로 보는 방식과 관련된다. 둘째, 사건이나 경험이란 단어로 개념화 할 수 있다. 셋째, 유기체의 세계에 대한 변화나 적응의 동기로서 작동한다. 넷째, 의미와 가치를 용해하고 융합하는 용광로로서 작동하나 지식과 관련된 내용은 아니다. 다섯째, 기존의 지식 전달적, 이원론적 전통과는 패러다임이 다르다. 미술활동을 통하여 빈번하게 발생하는 미적 경험, 즉 몰입 경험은 성찰의 기회를 제공하고, 이는 긍정적인 자아개념을 형성하는데 중요한 요소로 작용한다. 이런 이유로 미술적 활동은 현재의 우리 학생들에게 꼭 필요한 교육적 활동이 된다.

영문 초록

  The purpose of this study was to explore what Dewey called ‘aesthetic experience’ through Csikszentmihalyi"s theory called ‘flow’.
  I raised correspondents between what Dewey referred to as ‘aesthetic experience’ that has several characteristics, such as, ‘consummation’, ‘inner impulse’, ‘emotion involved’, ‘wholeness’, ‘unity’ and what Csikszentmihalyi"s called ‘flow’ that has several characteristics, such as, ‘merging of action and awareness’, ‘limitation of stimulus’, ‘loss of ego’, ‘control of actions’, ‘clear goal and feedback’, ‘autotelic nature’. Although the characteristics of two do not correspond one by one, they contain the same elements. Especially, the quality of the subjective states is the same in both contexts.
  I can re-state affinities carried by ‘aesthetic experience’ and ‘flow’ with broader sense.
  First, both are viewed as a kind of immediate, primacy reality of the world encountered. Second, both can be conceptualized in terms of ‘events’ or ‘histories’. Third, both function to impel or motivate change and adaptation by the living organism. Fourth, both serve as the crucible of meaning and value but are not a knowledge affair. And finally, both defy traditional transcendent and subject-object metaphysics.
  Therefore we can reach this conclusion. Aesthetic experience is synonymous with flow. Although each focuses on its side that is, philosophy or psychology. Then art teachers can encourage students experience ‘flow’ through the ‘aesthetic experiences’ because it has educational benefits for students as well
