  Recently, the attempt is coming to be many in which examines rhetorical and formal features of Gaewhagi-fiction relating to sociocultural condition. But most theses have researched on process of making narrative of communicative method as dialog and conversation. It could also result in the possibility of reducing the theses to investigation into form and meaning of debate-novel, excluded the social condition of debate and debate-novel. To overcome like this problem point, this paper pays attention to rhetoric practice. Exactly, this paper researches rhetoric practice of enlightenment idea, centering backing and activity in which Gaewhagi intellectuals organized debate association, investigates concept and meaning of Gaewhagi- fiction. Further It examines efficacy of enlightenment and persuasion in Freedom bell.
  Gaewhagi intellectuals had applied debate of communicative method to practice enlightening idea. The debate association of Gaewhagi had an high effect on social education in which debaters were awakened to communal consciousness of civilization and independence, were aroused to participating consciousness voluntarily. Also the debate association of Gaewhagi had the meaning of educational field in which they learned to modern communicative method as rule and advance system of meeting.
  In this social atmosphere, the debate-novel of Gaewhagi was also in use of rhetoric practices in which it could bring readers to improve customs, which could result in the possibility of producing enlightening idea and communal consciousness. It is narrative style peculiar to early modern times in which combines power of transmission with power of reappearance. Because one whoever wants to read debate-novel of Gaewhagi could repeat to read it, it had an effect on a textbook of the nation to educate customs correctly.
  There is no effort that investigate oral communicative method as modern debate or speech until now. And debate or debate-novel of Gaewhagi has approached in the view point of literary history. To investigate meaning of debate or debate-novel in Gaewhagi age wholly, we have to research communicative entity of Gaewhagi in sociocultural perspective of speech act . This is the purpose of future research.
