국문 초록

  인간문화사에서 커뮤니케이션 미디어의 역사적 단계는 최초의 구술문화에서 쓰기를 보편화한 문자문화로 그리고 이제 전자기술이 기반이 된 디지털 문화로 변화해가고 있다.
  그럼 디지털 문화 시대에 문자 문화에 보여지는 변화는 무엇인가하는 의문에서 본 논문은 출발한다. 이와 같은 주제를 고찰해보기 위해 본 논문에서는 다음과 같은 연구를 상정해보았다.
  첫째, 구술문화와 문자문화는 어떤 차이를 가지는가?
  둘째, 디지털 텍스트인 하이퍼텍스트가 가지는 특성은 무엇인가?
  셋째, 디지털 시대에 나타난 문자 문화의 변화는 어떤 모습을 띠는가하는 것이다.
  구술문화와 문자문화의 차이는 구술문화가 감각적, 공동체적, 감정이입적인데 비해 문자문화는 이성적, 객관적, 추상적 특성을 띰을 알 수 있었다.
  디지털 텍스트인 하이퍼텍스트의 특징으로는 직관과 영상을 중시하는 점, 그래픽을 위시한 멀티미디어적 성격 등을 들 수 있다.
  이와 같은 하이퍼텍스트와 더불어 디지털 시대의 문자 문화는 변화의 중심에 놓여 있다. 이모티콘과 같은 도상문자의 등장과 문자언어의 변형이 그것이다.
  이모티콘과 같은 도상문자의 등장은 쓰기를 기반으로 하는 문자를 좀더 구술에 가깝게 가기 위한 표현의 발로라 할 수 있다. 본래 문자는 대화를 위한 것이 아니었다. 그러나 디지털 환경의 컴퓨터상에서 실시간으로 대화를 함으로 인해 문자는 언어 사용자의 구술의 맥락, 즉 대화의 맥락에서 사용되는 것이다. 즉 여기서 디지털 문화의 구술성이란 측면이 보여지게 된다.
  그럼 이와 같은 이모티콘과 문자 언어의 변형이 유독 디지털 환경하에서 생겨나고 사용하게 된 원인은 무엇인가? 첫째 감정의 전달을 용이하게 하기 위함이다. 문자만으로는 표현할 수 없는 미세한 감정을 이모티콘을 통해 전달하려는 것이다.
  두 번째 이유로는 경제성의 문제이다. 디지털 환경하의 문자언어는 구어의 특성을 가지고 있으나 자판을 이용하여 문자로 대화하기 때문에 아무리 빨리 타자를 친다 할지라도 구어를 따라갈 수 없다. 따라서 빠른 시간에 많은 의사소통을 하기 위해서는 비문법적인 언어의 형태로 문장 안의 단어를 최대한 줄여서 쓰는 축약이나, 생략, 또는 소리나는 대로 적기 등의 문자의 변형이 일어나게 된다.
  또다른 이유로는 심리적 동기를 들 수 있다. 디지털문화 공간 내에서 변용된 언어를 사용하는 것이 보통 사람들과 다른 독특한 개성을 나타내며, 같은 공동체의 일원이라는 의식이 형성된다고 느끼는 심리적인 의도가 들어있는 것이다.
  디지털문화시대에 있어 문자문화는 시각화, 구술화 경향을 점점 띠게 됨을 고찰할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

  The historical step of communication media in human culture is evolving from text culture that popularized the writing first in oral culture, to electronic technology-based digital culture.
  Now, I am going to start this thesis from questioning what kind of change is shown to text culture in this digital cultural era. In order to review this topic, I posed questions as follows in this thesis.
  First, how is oral culture different from text culture?
  Second, what are the features of a hypertext, which is a digital text?
  Third, how does text culture appear in the digital era?
  As for the difference between oral culture and text culture, it was proven that text culture was featured to be rational, objective, and abstract whereas oral culture was sensual, communistic, and empathetic.
  As for the features of a hypertext, which is a digital text, a hypertext weighed intuition and image more and seemed more like multimedia headed by its graphic figures.
  Along with the hypertext like this, the text in this digital era is placed on the center of the change. The appearance of a diagrammatic text such as emoticon and the transformation of text language prove the change.
  The advent of a diagrammatic text such as emoticon is like an expression of making texts, which is grounded on writing, and looks more like oral statement. Originally, a text was not for conversation. However, it is now used in a context of oral statement of language users, that is, it is used for conversation when people converse with each other in real-time on a computer which is a digital environment. In other words, we are living in oral-oriented digital culture.
  The reason for emoticon and the transformation of text language appearing under the digital environment is probably because people want faster communication and smoother transfer of emotion, and want to share a community spirit with other people who use the same transformed language by using such transformed language.
  Likewise, it was also proven that text culture becomes more visualized and orally expressed in this electronic technology-based digital cultural era.
