무의자의 염송시에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

  본고는 『선문염송』에 실린 무의자의 염송시를 작품론적 관점에서 고찰하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 염송시가 창출되게 된 배경으로 중국의 頌古·拈古 문학의 영향과 詩敎를 중시하는 효용론적 시인식에 대해 살펴보았다. 다음으로 시세계를 내용상 크게 첫째 話頭의 妙義를 간명하게 시화, 둘째 관조된 자연의 悟境을 형상화, 셋째 다양한 수사법의 선적 활용 등으로 나누어 살펴보았다.   본고에서 논의한 내용을 바탕으로 무의자의 염송시가 갖는 특징을 요약하면 다음과 같다.   첫째, 그는 자신의 선적 깨달음을 바탕으로 수행자들이 곧바로 화두의 密義를 깨달을 수 있도록 난해한 화두의 내용을 기억하기 쉽게 짧은 시형식을 援用하되 그 화두의 묘밀한 뜻을 온전히 담아내었다.   둘째, 관조된 자연의 오경을 형상화한 시는 그가 시교를 중시하는 시인식을 바탕으로 下化衆生의 차원에서 무의미한 화두가 궁극에 도달하고자 하는 선적 묘오의 세계를 관조된 자연의 경계에 붙여 읊은 悟他詩라 할 수 있다. 이는 그가 上求菩提의 과정에서 자신의 깨달음의 경계를 읊은 自悟詩와는 작시동기가 크게 다르다. 그러나 궁극에 詩禪一如의 시세계를 보여주고 있다는 점에서는 모두 차원 높은 선시의 세계를 개척해냈다고 하겠다.   셋째, 선적 비유나 상징, 역설 등의 다양한 수사법을 적절하게 활용해서 화두에 담긴 禪旨를 시속에 함축적으로 담아내었다. 이러한 선적 비유나 상징, 역설 등은 무의자에 의해 새로운 표현이 독특하게 씌어진 것이라 할 수 있다.   이렇게 볼 때, 무의자의 염송시는 그의 심오한 선시세계의 한 국면을 밝혀내는 데 도움이 됨은 물론, 일반한시와 다른 선시만의 개성적인 면모를 유감없이 보여주는 선가의 독특한 한시체로 한국 선시의 하나의 원형을 보여주었다는 데 그 시문학사적 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

  This manuscript studied Mooeuija"s Yeom Song poem in [Seon Moon Yeom Song] in a productional point of view. First for the back ground creation of Yeom Song poem, effect of ancient culture of Song Go and Yeom Go and usefulness way of recognition of poem which values educate life through poem was examined. And looked into world of poem divided into portions which the first was poetize peculiar(hidden) meaning of topic conversation in concise way. Second, form contemplated pinnacle of perception of nature and third use various buddhistic meditation of rhetoric method. Based on described contents in this manuscript, summarized specification possessed by Mooeuija"s Yeom Song poem as follows.   First, based on his perception of Buddhistic meditation, he invoked easy and concise poem method for ascetics to directly perceive the hidden meaning of topic conversation and to ease memorization of profound contents of topic conversation and at the same time he expressed exquisite meaning of topic conversation in whole.   Second, the poem created in contemplated pinnacle of perception of the nature based on recognition of poem which he values education through poem in the level of educating the mankind it is the poem for wake of the mankind recites the world of buddhisitic meditation perception to arrive at finality of meaningless topic conversation attached to contemplated boundary of nature. This is entirely different versification motive from self-perception poem which he recited self-pinnacle of perception during the process of seeking salvation. But he pioneered high level of buddhistic meditation world by showing the poem world where in finality poem and buddhistic meditation is one.   Third, by utilizing various rhetoric method such as buddhistic meditation comparison, symbol or assertion he expressed meaning of buddhistic meditation in the topic conversation in the poem by implication. These buddhistic meditation comparison, symbol and assertions were used by Mooeuija in uniquely new expression.   When you look at it in this point of view, not only Mooeuija"s Yeom Song poem assist to enlighten one of the aspects of the esoteric world of buddhistic meditation poem but also as one of the unique form of verse of the Zen sect which shows individual aspect to its fullness of Zen poem which is different from general Chinese poem and it has the poetic cultural historical meaning by showing one of the pattern of Korean Zen poem.
