영문 초록

The importance of Korean woman essays are on the increase. But it is regrettable that we had difficulty in finding women's name in the history of Korean literature. This fact is to show evidence that our society adopt to patriarchal system with male as the central figure. As for Korean women essay, feminism just came to emerge in 1980's. It is obvious that woman essayists assume more positive attitude to the quest for and question of female identity and language than ever. This thesis categorizes the statement appeared in the essays of women in 1980's, under the plan of inspecting the identity and direction of feminist essays, emphasizing on 1) what characteristics female statement has in the texts of women essayists, 2) what reality and essayist's inner mind those texts represent and what value and idea they reveal. As a result, we can infer three - directed tendency. One is coordination -oriented tactic(ironical satire, natural lyricism, allegoric narration) for finding woman identity within external world like society, nature, myth etc. and another, tactic of immanent tear(talking monologue, fantasy of leap and delay, grotesque of sadism and masochism) for acquiring woman identity within internal world of herself full of desire, unconsciousness, fear, or what not. and the third is tactic of extrication and statement for opening to mind. Such a work for the tactics of statement appeared in the essays of women in this paper is a process in which female experience is restored and woman's voice and identity is reaffirmed. Besides, that is a task of transmuting the wrath of woman herself into the source of creativity as well as denying the phallogocentrism to confine and devaluate female virtue. Diverse tactics above are the consequence of women essayists in 1980's who have exerted to criticize the phallic symbolic. And so big a walk is a proof that 'female' becomes a subject of feministic vision and quest in Korean women essayist group.
