국문 초록

‘존재를 위한 학습’과 ‘학습; 우리 안에 감춰진 보물’은 평생교육에서 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있다. 현재의 평생교육은 시대적 변화와 환경요구에 대응할 것을 지속적으로 요구받고 있다. 경제적 측면에 치우치는 경향도 나타난다. 두 보고서의 비교연구는 평생교육의 방향과 내용을 설정하는 데 많은 시사점을 제시할 것이다. 두 보고서는 현대 사회변동과 교육개혁과의 상호 적응적 대처에 주안점을 두고 있다. 사회에서 인간소외의 문제를 평생교육의 중심과제로서 제기하고 있다. 교육의 4대 기둥을 통해 국제협력, 민주시민정신, 자유ㆍ평화ㆍ사회정의 등을 실현할 것을 주장한다. 교육은 모든 사람들에게 효용성을 갖는 일종의 공공선(a public good)으로서 “교육이란 단지 시장요인(market forces)에만 맡겨둘 수 없는 집단적 자산(collective asset)”임을 밝히고 있다. 향후 ‘완전한 인간(a complete man)’ 추구를 지원하는 평생교육의 사회에 대한 의무에 대한 연구가 활발하게 이루어져야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

‘Learning to be' and ‘Learning; the treasure within’ are well known to be treasures in the world of lifelong education. There have been not a few attempts to interpretate and investigate both reports, but little efforts have been made to compare ‘Learning to be’ with ‘Learning; the treasure within’ in depth. It is highly needed to do a comparative study in the light of the authentic spirit of lifelong education. Coming into the knowledge economy era, lifelong learning has been biased toward lifelong ‘Earning’ without ‘Learning’. More policy priority has been given to economic competitiveness and lifelong employability rather than self-realization and social inclusion. It is urgently needed to restore the original goals of lifelong education. In this end, the study presented here is an attempt to set the stage for rebuilding the original goals and directions of lifelong education. Research findings show that ‘Learning to be’ was the starting point of lifelong education. ‘Learning; the treasure within’ was the extension of ‘Learning to be’ in consideration of the global knowledge society and the end of progressive nation state. It can not be denied that both reports are the social construct of the times. It is inevitable to reflect the socioeconomic needs as wells as the lifelong education needs. In addition to ‘learning to be’, ‘learning to know’, ‘learning to do’, ‘learning to live together’ were further added as the pillars of lifelong education, They were the product of global knowledge economy, away with the nation state. They suggest that lifelong education should be in the pursuit of complete man, that is, human being itself. Lifelong education is a great long march toward the global learning society built on the four pillars. In addition, it was reconfirmed that education is a public good for the all people and “a collective asset not to be dominated by market forces”.
