국문 초록

본 연구에서는 현재의 학교교육의 문제점을 근본적으로 지적하는 평생교육론, 즉 학교교육 대안론을 검토하였다. 현재의 학교교육이 교육체제의 측면과 학습의 측면에서 어떠한 위치에 있는가를 역사적으로 조명하고, 이것에 비추어 교육체제의 탄력적 재구조화와 학습의 생명력 회복을 논지로 하는 학교교육 대안론의 의미를 살펴본 것이다. 연구 내용은 다음과 같다. 현재의 학교교육이 조선시대에 비하여 교육체제의 측면에서는 체계성이 강화되었지만, 학습의 측면에서는 학습의 본질이 왜곡되는 문제점을 낳고 있다고 보았다. 그리고 무엇보다도 현재의 학교제도가 모든 사람에게 교육의 기회를 제공하는 보편교육의 실현에 공헌하고 있다는 점에 주목하였다. 이러한 관점에서 연구자는 대안론을 제기할 경우 고려해야 할 사항들을 몇 가지 제안하였다. 첫째 교육의 기회균등의 원리가 훼손되지 않아야 한다는 점, 둘째 사회의 필요 인력을 적절하게 양성할 수 있어야 한다는 점, 셋째 학습자의 능력을 공정하게 평가하는 방안이 마련되어야 한다는 점, 넷째 실제적인 변화를 위해서는 비용을 위시한 현실적 요인을 충분히 검토해야 한다는 점, 다섯째 새로운 교육체제에서도 교사의 역할을 감소되지 않기 때문에 새로운 자질을 갖춘 교사의 확보와 활용방안을 모색해야 한다는 점 등이다. 그리고 마지막으로 새로운 교육체제의 구축은 현재의 학교교육의 문제를 개선하려는 노력과 병행해서 이루어져야 하며, 상호 개방적 논의가 세부적인 사안마다 필요하다는 점을 지적하였다.

영문 초록

This study tries to understand the one of the life-long education theories. The theory regards the modern school system as outdated and proposes to replace it by a new educational system and to recover the life of learning. I call it as “replacement theory”. For this purpose, this study adapts historical perspective. I think the historical approach show the strong and weak points of modern school system vividly which the replacement theory criticizes, and so help to estimate the validity of the theory. The results of the study as follows: First, the modern school system is established by the principle of the universal education. It is the most great achievement in the history of education above all. And the principle of the universal education is so important in a democratic society that it should be esteemed as the core principle in the new educational system as well. Second, the modern school system develops to systemize the learning in contrast to the Chosen dynasty but the learning is disfigured by the standardization of curriculum in the progress. But the “modularization” of curriculum which the replacement theorist favours seems to bo one of many standardizations. So the meaning of the recovery of learning must be examined more critically in the theory. Third, at present the modern school system is on the stage of beginning, so it is wiser to correct the problems of modern school system gradually than to replace it by a new educational system abruptly. In reality, there are many items to be scrutinized in advance of proposing the necessity of building a new educational system. For example, the opportunity of education, the fulfillment of the social man power, the possibility of the pubic examination, the budget or money, the role of the teacher and so on. Fourth, although there seems to be a severe difference between the replacement theory and the evolutionist standpoint of the modern school system, they have many items to converse and cooperate to establish a more educational society.
