이해도의 관점에서 본 국립박물관 활동지의 전문용어 -공예 분야 자율관람 활동지를 중심으로-

국문 초록

본 논문은 박물관에서 제공하는 자율관람 활동지에 수록된 전문용어가 비전문가인 관람객이 이해할 수 있는 형태인지 확인하고, 쉬운 우리말 어휘로 이루어진 전문용어 사용의 중요성을 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 활동지 수록 전문용어의 관람객 이해도를 연구하기 위해, 국립박물관에서 초등학생을 대상으로 개발한 공 예 주제의 활동지 6종을 분석해, 활동지에 수록된 전문용어의 어종별 내역을 연구하고, 일상용어와의 거리 도를 계산했다. 그 결과 총 121개(중복 어휘 제거)의 공예 분야 전문용어가 추출됐는데, 이 중 81.8%가 한 자어였다. 이는 초등학교 교과서는 물론 표준국어대사전 수록 표제어의 한자어 비중보다 월등히 높은 비율 이다. 활동지에 사용된 전문용어가 한글 전용 세대인 초등학생이 이해하기 어려운 한자어 위주로 구성된 것이다. 한자어 전문용어가 어려운 것은 당연하지만, 한자어냐 고유어냐보다 더 중요한 것은 이들이 음성 언어로 뜻을 알 수 있을 만큼 쉬운 일상어라야 한다는 점이다. 무조건 한자어가 어렵고 고유어가 쉬운 것은 아니기 때문이다. 이에 초등학생이 구사하는 2만 5천여 개의 일상어와 활동지에 등장하는 공예 전문용어 사이의 거리도를 측정했는데, 두 용어 사이의 거리도가 66.1로 계산됐다. 이는 활동지 수록 공예 분야 전문 용어의 절반 이상이 초등학생이 일상에서 접해보지 못한 낯선 표현이라는 뜻으로, 국립박물관의 활동지가 매우 어렵게 제작되고 있음을 말해준다. 박물관이 관람객을 위해 제공하는 활동지는 전시를 이해하는 길잡 이 역할을 한다. 그러므로 활동지에 수록된 전문용어는 관람객이 쉽게 받아들일 수 있는 형태라야 한다. 활 동지가 수월성 높은 학습 자료로서 초등학생들에게 유의미하게 사용되기 위해서는 활동지의 전문용어들 이 사용자의 언어 수준에 맞는지 확인하고, 수정하는 재정비 작업이 시급하다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to check whether the terminology in the self-worksheet provided by a museum can be understood by non-professional visitors and to clarify the importance of using terminology made up of easy everyday word. To study the visitors' understanding of terminology in the worksheet, six types of craft-themed worksheets developed for elementary school students in the National Museum were analyzed. Then, I studied the types of vocabulary about terminology in the worksheet and calculated the distance from everyday terms. As a result, a total of 121 technical terms in the field of crafts (removing overlapping vocabulary) were extracted, of which 81.8% were Chinese characters. This is a much higher proportion than the proportions of Chinese characters in the entry of the standard Korean dictionary as well as elementary school textbooks. The terminology used in the worksheet is mainly made up of Chinese characters that are difficult for elementary school students who have only used Hangeul. It is obvious that terminology based on Chanise characters is difficult to understand, but the most important thing is that the meaning of terms should be easy to understand as spoken language, regardless of whether it is a native term or Chinese. Therefore, I measured and calculated the distance between the 26,678 everyday words spoken by children and the terminology used by the worksheet for craft field. The result showed that the distance between the two terms was quite far, 66.1. This means that more than half of the technical terms in the craft field are unfamiliar expressions that elementary school students have not encountered in their everyday lives, indicating that the worksheet of the National Museum is very difficult. The worksheet provided by the museum for visitors serves as a guide for understanding the exhibition. Therefore, the terminology contained in the worksheet should be in a form that visitors can easily accept. For the worksheet to be used by elementary school students as excellent learning material, it is urgent to reorganize and correct the terminology of the worksheet to meet the language level of the user.
