5세기대 중장기병용 찰갑 변화양상- 경주 쪽샘 C지구 10호 출토 찰갑의 요찰을 중심으로 -

국문 초록

5세기 중장기병용 찰갑은 몸을 보호하는 신갑, 목과 어깨를 보호하는 부속갑 등으로 구성된다. 그 중 몸을 보호하는 신갑은 동찰, 요찰, 상찰로 구성되는데, 이 중에서 요찰이 가장 형태적으로 특이하며, 구별하기 쉬운 소찰이다. 요찰의 변화상은 그동안의 갑옷 발굴과 연구를 통해 S자형->ㄷ자형->Ω형으로 변화되어 왔음을 밝혔다. 2024년에 국립경주문화재연구소에서 발간한 『경주 쪽샘지구 신라고분유적ⅩⅤ -C10호 목곽묘 출토 찰갑 조사연구 보고서 2권-』을 통해 경주 쪽샘 C10호 출토 찰갑이 보고되었다. 해당 찰갑은 완전한 1개체의 찰갑이 출토된 국내 유일의 사례이다. 해당 찰갑의 특이한 점은 요찰 형태와 소찰 전체수량이다. 경주 쪽샘 C10호 찰갑의 요찰은 ㄷ자형의 단면을 가진 요찰이며, 2단으로 구성되어 있다. 그리고 신갑의 소찰 수량이 약 1,000점에 가깝다. 기존의 출토 찰갑과 비교해 볼 때, 소찰 수량이 압도적으로 많지만, 경주지역에서 찰갑이 복수부장된 사례가 없고, 군마현의 키나이히가시우라 출토 1호 찰갑이 약 1,620점으로 구성된 점을 미루어 볼 때 경주 쪽샘 C10호 출토 찰갑은 1건으로 보는 것이 합리적일 것이다. 그리고 경주 쪽샘 C10호 출토 찰갑의 ㄷ자형 요찰은 2단으로 구성되어 있다. 이는 소찰 수량의 증가와 관련있는 것으로 추정된다. 기존의 S자형 요찰을 사용하는 찰갑은 소찰의 면적이 ㄷ자형 요찰을 사용하는 찰갑의 소찰보다 크다는 점, 5세기 말 이후의 찰갑의 소찰수량이 많아진다는 점 등을 미루어 볼 때, 요찰의 구조적 변화는 소찰의 수량 증가와 관련이 있다. 또한, 요찰은 반드시 철제로 제작되었는데, 이는 단면에 곡률을 주기 위한 것으로 보인다. 요찰에 단면이 필요한 것은 착장자가 안장에 앉았을 때, 소찰 아랫단이 착장자의 골반이나 허벅지를 찌르지 못하도록 막기 위함이다. 이는 요찰이 있는 갑옷은 기마를 상정하고 제작되었음을 의미한다. 하지만, ㄷ자형 요찰에서 Ω자형 요찰로변화하는 양상을 해당 소찰의 다량화를 통해 설명할 수 없다는 문제점이 있다.

영문 초록

The armor for Cavalry in the 5th century consists of body armor and accessory armor that protects the neck and shoulders. Among them, the armor that protects the body consists of Dongchal, Yochal, and Sangchal, of which Yochal is the most morphologically specific and easy to distinguish. It was revealed that the change of Yochal has been transformed into an S-shape → U-shape → Omega-shape through the excavation and research of armor. In 2024, the Gyeongju National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage reported the excavation of the C10 from the Gyeongju Jeoksam C10 through 『Ⅹ V of the Silla Ancient Tombs in Jeoksam District』. This is the only case in Korea in which a complete body of stone has been excavated. The complete set was excavated by integrating the helmet, body armor, accessory armor, and Horse armor. The shape of the Yochal and Quantity are unique. The Yochal of Scale armor in Gyeongju Jeoksam C10 are made up of two tiers. And the number of small Scales of Chalgap is close to 1,000. Although the number of Scales pieces is overwhelmingly large compared to the previous excavation of Scasle armor, there have been no cases in which multiple pieces of Scasle armor were buried in Gyeongju, and about 1,620 pieces of Scales armor in Kinai Higashiura Excavation in Gunma are made up of one piece of Scales armor in Gyeongju Jeoksam C10. Additionally, it is assumed that the two-tiered U-shape of the Scales armor discovered in Gyeongju's C10 is related to the increase in the number of inspections, although it was previously thought that Scales armor consisted of one stage. It is presumed that the change in Scales armor is related to the increase in the quantity of Scales after the end of the 5th century, given that the area of Scale armor's Yochal, which uses the existing S-shaped Yochal, is larger than that of Scale armor, which uses the U-shaped Yochal, and that the number of Yochal since the end of the 5th century appears to be large Obviously. In addition, the incontinence was necessarily made of iron and used, which seems to be to add curvature to the cross section. The need for a cross section of the incontinence seems to play a role in preventing the lower end of the incontinence from stabbing the occupant in the pelvis or thigh when he sits in the saddle. This means that the armor with the incontinence was made with the assumption of horseback riding. However, there is a problem that the pattern of changing from a U-shaped incontinence to an omega-type incontinence cannot be explained through the quantification of the incontinence.
