국문 초록

이 연구는 평양 숭실대학에서 불렀던 교가의 역사적 의미를 분석하는 데 목적을 두었다. 숭실대학은 내한선교사들의 주도로 설립되었으며 이 과정에서 서구 음악이 도입되었다. 본 논문은 평양 숭실대학의 초창기 교가부터 서울 숭실 재건 초기까지 불렸던 교가의 가사 및 음악적 특징을 발굴하고, 이를 통해 숭실대학이 추구했던 교육 이념과 기독교적 정신을 고찰했다. 또한 교가가 학생들 사이에서 정체성과 유대감을 고취하고 학교의 정체성을 강화하는 데 기여한 바를 논의했다. 숭실대학의 교가는 시대적 상황과 맞물려 민족적 자긍심을 고취하는 역할을 하기도 했다. 교가는 학생들에게 단순한 학교 송가 이상의 의미를 가지게 되었고 이를 통해 학교 공동체 내에서 민족정신이 배양되었다. 이러한 역사적 맥락 속에서 숭실대학 교가는 특정 학교 문화의 한 부분을 넘어 한국 근대교육의 중요한 상징적 요소로 자리 잡았음을 확인할 수 있다. 또한 숭실대학 교가는 내한선교사들의 음악적 영향 아래 발전하면서 종교적 의미와 함께 학생들의 학문적 교육과 정신적 수양에도 기여했다. 교가의 가사에는 기독교적 가치와 믿음이 반영되어 있어 학생들에게신앙과 도덕적 책임감을 심어주었다. 교가가 숭실대학의 학문적 목적과 기독교적 이념을 결합한 상징으로기능했음을 보여준다. 본 연구는 이러한 요소들을 종합적으로 분석하여 숭실대학 교가의 복원 및 현대적활용 방안을 제안하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze the historical significance of the school songs sung at Pyongyang Soongsil University. Soongsil University was established under the leadership of foreign missionaries, and through this process, Western-style music and school songs were introduced. This paper explores the lyrics and musical characteristics of the school songs sung from the early days of Pyongyang Soongsil University until its closure and examines the educational philosophy and Christian spirit that Soongsil University pursued through these songs. Furthermore, it discusses how the school songs contributed to instilling pride among students and strengthening the identity of the school. It was confirmed that the school songs of Soongsil University symbolized the identity of the institution and played a role in strengthening the bonds among its members. The school songs of Soongsil University also played a role in promoting national pride in line with the historical context of the time. The songs held significance beyond being mere school anthems for the students, and through them, the spirit of the nation was fostered within the school community. In this historical context, it was confirmed that the school songs of Soongsil University went beyond being part of a particular school culture and became important symbolic elements of modern Korean education. Moreover, as the school songs developed under the musical influence of the missionaries, they not only held religious significance but also contributed to the students' academic education and spiritual cultivation. The lyrics of the school songs reflected Christian values and beliefs, instilling faith and moral responsibility in the students. This shows that the school songs functioned as symbols that combined the academic goals of Soongsil University with its Christian ideals. This study comprehensively analyzes these elements and discusses how the school songs can be connected to the Soongsil University of today, ultimately proposing ways to restore and modernize the use of Soongsil University's school songs.
