국문 초록

본 연구는 최근 박물관법 개정을 통해 박물관의 사회적 역할과 기능, 그 미래상에 대해 숙고하고 있는 일본 사례를 중심으로 생물문화다양성 보존의 문제와 이와 관련한 지역 자연사박물관의 역할과 방향을 살펴보고자 한 데서 출발한다. 본고의 연구 대상 지역인 일본 가고시마는 세계자연유산으로 지정된 여러 섬이 존재하고 특히 언제 분화할지 모를 활화산을 지척에 둔곳이다. 보통 현립(県立)박물관은 해당 지역의 고고․역사․예술 위주의 주제를 다루는 것이 일반적이나 가고시마의 경우 자연사가 주요한 콘텐츠이며 이를 바탕으로 전시와 박물관 활동들을 지속해 오고 있다. 가고시마현은 자연 자원이 풍부하며 이에 대한 관심이 높은 지역으로 자연계 박물관이 다수 분포하고 있다. 연구자는 가고시마현립박물관을 비롯한 가고시마현의 여러 자연계 박물관 사례를 통해 자연환경과 문화유산이 맺고 있는 관계를 살펴보고 자연사박물관이 주도하는 생물문화다양성 보존 활동 및 전시재현과 지역사회 참여 양상을 분석해 보고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study began with an attempt to examine the issue of biological and cultural diversity conservation and the role and direction of local natural history museums in this regard, focusing on the case of Japan, which is considering the social role and function of museums and their future. Kagoshima, Japan, is the study area of this paper. It has several islands designated as World Natural Heritage sites and is especially close to an active volcano that may erupt at any time. Usually, prefectural museums deal with the region’s archeology, history, and art. Still, in Kagoshima’s case, natural history is the main content, and exhibitions and museum activities have continued based on this. Kagoshima Prefecture is a region rich in natural resources and has a high level of interest, with many natural museums located there. This paper examines the relationship between the natural environment and cultural heritage through the cases of various natural museums in Kagoshima Prefecture, including the Kagoshima Prefectural Museum. Additionally, this study analyzes the biological and cultural diversity conservation activities led by the Natural History Museum, exhibition reproduction, and local community participation patterns.
