박물관 전시 구성에서 시간관 조형의 문제 - 박물관과 삶의 연관을 위한 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 박물관이 오랫동안 전시 구성에 반영해 왔던 선형적 시간관, 그리고 그 성찰로서 대두한 공시간관 조형 측면을 살피면서, 삶과의 연관을 도모하려는 국내 역사계 박물관이 논쟁화해야 할 지점을 제안하는데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 먼저 19세기 무렵 퍼져나간 박물관이 당시 서유럽 사회에 팽배했던 ‘역사주의(historicism)’ 분위기와 연동해 선형적ㆍ진보적인 시간관을 유포하던 산물이었음을 살폈다. 선형적 시간관은 당시로서는 세상의 이치를 총체적으로 파악할 수 있게 하는 획기적인 세계관이라 여겨졌다. 하지만 이는 인간의 행위 결과를 시간의 연속에 결박시켜 파악하도록 하는 등, 삶의 운영 주체로서의 행위성과 역동성을 결정론적이고 목적론적으로 이해하게 만드는 한계를 지닌다. 그래서 이러한 한계 인식에서 변화를 추동한 박물관들은, 과거와 미래를 쫓는 전시 방식이 아닌, 현재의 무대에서 행하는 사유와 수행에 방점을 두는 새로운 시간관 조형을 요청ㆍ 실행하고자 했다. ‘공시간관(contemporary)’ 개념이 등장하고 논쟁점으로 부상한 까닭이다. 이에 박물관 전시 구성에서 공시간관의 강조가 지닌 함의를 구체적으로 살피며, 이것이 현재의 삶과 박물관 전시를 어떻게 연관 짓게 하는지를 검토했다. 마지막으로, 이를 바탕으로 국내 역사계 박물관이 삶과의 연관을 도모하기 위해서는 공시간관의 강조와 그것이 추구하는 바를 세심하게 살펴보며, 전시 구성에 관성적으로 적용하고 있는 시간관을 쟁점화할 필요가 있음을 제안했다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to propose what issues need to be made by domestic historical museums that seek to relate to life. To this end, I looked at the linear view of time that the museum has implemented as an exhibition and the concept of contemporary that emerged as a reflection. First, I revealed that museums that spread including Western Europe in the 19th century were involved in distributing a linear and progressive view of time in conjunction with the atmosphere of ‘historism’ that prevailed in Western European society at the time. At that time, the linear view of time was spotlighted as a useful worldview for comprehensively grasping the principles of the world. However, this makes human subjective behavior subjugated to the succession of time to grasp it. It has a limit that makes it overlook the dynamic subjectivity and behavior of running one's life. The museum, which emerged from this recognition of limitations, emphasized 'contemporary' as the principle of composition of the exhibition. It is a new view of time that focuses on present thoughts and actions. Therefore, I paid attention to the implications of such a concept as to what and how this emphasis on contemporary was intended to change in museum exhibitions. Finally, based on this, I suggested that in order for domestic historical museums to promote a connection with life, it is necessary to look at what the contemporary concept pursues, and that it is necessary to make the method of implementing the view of time through exhibitions an issue. Through this study, I look forward to starting a discussion on the realization of the view of time, which was still an incomplete area, even though it should have been carefully examined and discussed in relation to the composition of the exhibition.
