국문 초록

이 글은 대옹의 정치적 맥락을 파악하기 위해 대옹의 생산과 유통, 그리고 소비에 이르는 전 과정을 살펴보았다. 먼저 대옹이 소성된 토기 가마의 분포권은 한강 하류(A권역)와 경기 남부(B권역)로 구분되는데, 대옹의 생산 규모에 따라 대규모와 소규모 생산지로 구분되며, 각 생산지의 위치와 유통 범위에 차이를 보인다. A, B권역 모두 다중의 유통망을 통해 다종의 대옹이 소비지에 공급되었다. 원삼국 후기에 출현한 원통형과 첨저형 대옹은 주로 경기 북부와 남부에 유통된 것과는 달리 난형 대옹은 서울, 경기 전 지역에 고루 분포하면서, 백제 왕성과 인구 밀집 지역인 오산천 일대에 집중 분포한다. 특히 가장 이른 형식의 난형 대옹이 풍납토성에서 출토되기 때문에 백제 중앙 기종이라 판단된다. 대옹은 대부분 수로를 통해 유통되었는데, A권역에서는 임진강과 한강 수계에 접근성이 좋은 입지적 조건 덕분에 넓은 범위에 원통형 대옹이 유통되었다. 이와는 달리 B권역에서는 산지 지형과 하천 규모가 작은 불리함이 있지만, 인구 밀집 지역의 소비력 덕분에 오산천과 탄천을 따라 넓은 범위에 난형 대옹이 유통되었다. 소비지에서의 대옹의 소비 유형은 동일한 생계 경제를 가진 지역 간에 유사성을 보이기도 하지만, 동일한 유통망에 포함된 지역 간에 유사성을 보이기도 한다. 특히 인구 밀집 지역인 백제 왕성과, 이에 연결된 탄천과 오산천에서 난형 대옹의 소비 유형이 유사한 양상을 보인다. 마지막으로 저장수혈군과, 인구 밀집지, 그리고 난형 대옹의 분포는 4세기 이후에 오산천과, 탄천 상류에서 중복된다. 이는 대형단경호와 함께 난형 대옹이 국가 수취에 동원되었음을 의미한다. 또한 난형 대옹은 자연재해나 병충해와 같은 위기에 대비하여 재지 사회의 안전망으로써 잉여 생산물의 재분배 수단으로 소비되었다.

영문 초록

This study examines the entire process from the production and distribution to the con-sumption of Big Jars to understand their political context. The distribution areas of the pottery kilns where Big Jars were fired are divided into the lower reaches of the Han River (Zone A) and southern Gyeonggi (Zone B), with large-scale and small-scale production sites based on the production scale of Big Jars, and differ-ences in the location and distribution range of each production site. Both Zones A and B had multiple distribution networks through which various types of Big Jars were supplied to the consumption areas. The Cylindrical and Triangular shape Big Jars that appeared in the late Proto-Three Kingdoms period were mainly distributed in northern and southern Gyeonggi, while Egg shape Big Jars were evenly distributed throughout Seoul and Gyeonggi, with a concen-trated distribution around Osancheon, where the Baekje royal city and densely populated areas were located. The earliest type of Egg shape Big Jars is found in Pungnap Toseong, suggesting it was a central type of Baekje. Most of the Big Jars were distributed through waterways. In Zone A, Cylindrical shape Big Jars were widely distributed thanks to good accessibility to the Imjin River and Han River basins. In contrast, Zone B had disadvantages such as mountainous terrain and small river sizes, but due to the consumption power of densely populated areas, Egg shape Big Jars were widely distributed along Osancheon and Tancheon. The consumption patterns of Big Jars in the consumption areas show similarities be-tween regions with the same subsistence economy, and between regions included in the same distribution network. The consumption patterns of Egg shape Big Jars show similar aspects in the densely populated Baekje royal city and the connected Tancheon and Osan-cheon. Lastly, the distribution of storage pit groups, densely populated areas, and Egg shape Big Jars, which were utilized in the state's tax collection activities, overlaps in the upper reaches of Osancheon and Tancheon after the 4th century. This implies that Egg shape Big Jars, along with large short-necked jars, were mobilized in the state's tax collection prac-tices. Moreover, Egg shape Big Jars were consumed as a means of redistributing surplus production, serving as a safety net for local communities in preparation for crises such as
