근대 시기 서양인 한국어 학습자 관점에서의 한국 문화에 관한 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 근대 시기 한국어 교재에 나타난 한국 문화 항목을 분석하고, 서양인 한국어 학습자들의 저서에 나타난 한국 문화에 대한 인식을 살펴봄으로써 ‘외국인 학습자들은 한국의 어떤 문화를 보았는가, 그것을 어떤 관점으로 바라보았는가’에 대하여 고찰하였다. 근대 시기 서양인들이 쓴 한국어 교재에서 드러난 한국의 의식주 문화, 문화적 행위, 관념 문화를 예문을 통해 확인하였으며, 서양인 한국어 학습자들의 저서를 통해 상호문화 감수성 발달 단계에 따라 서양인 한국어 학습자들의 인식을 분석한 결과 ‘방어’의 단계에서부터 ‘통합’의 단계까지 나타나는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 분석을 통하여 한국 문화 교수 학습 설계에서 외국인 학습자의 요구와 경험이 반영되는 문화를 교육내용으로 선정해야 할 필요성과 한국어 학습자들이 타문화를 인식하는 과정을 체계적으로 이해할 필요성을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the Korean cultural elements found in Korean language textbooks used by Western learners during the modern era. By examining their perceptions of Korean culture as portrayed in their writings, the study investigated the question: 'What aspects of Korean culture have foreign learners observed, and from what perspective have they viewed it?' Through examples, the study confirmed the conscious culture, behavioral culture, and conceptual culture perceived by foreign learners in Korean language textbooks. Additionally, analyzing works by Western learners of Korean according to the stages of intercultural sensitivity development, the study observed a progression from the 'denial' stage to the 'integration' stage. Based on these analyses, the study proposed the necessity of incorporating the demands and experiences of foreign learners into the selection of Korean cultural content in teaching and learning designs. Furthermore, the study suggested the need for cultural attitude education to approach other cultures through the process of intercultural awareness.
