국문 초록

이 연구는 전국 각지의 초등교사를 대상으로, 경계선급 지적 기능(BIF) 아동에 대한 인식과 이들을 교육하는 데 필요한 지원 사항을 확인하는 데 목적이 있다. 전국 초등학교에서 근무하고 있는 일반 교사(특수교사 및 비교과 교사 제외)를 대상으로 초등교사 커뮤니티를 통하여 무작위 지원자 162명을 표집하여 BIF 아동에 대한 인식과 이해 정도, 선별과 진단 및 교육에 관한 실태, 교사들이 필요로 하는 지원사항을 조사하였다. 조사 결과, 대다수는 BIF 용어와 정의에 대해서는 알고 있다고 응답했지만 선별이나 진단 방법과 도구에 대해서는 모른다는 응답자가 전체의 2/3에 육박하였다. 그럼에도 약 24%의 응답자들은 학교에서 BIF 아동을 선별하고 있다고 응답했는데, 그 방법으로는 학습부진 학생 선별 및 진단과 크게 다르지 않았다. 교사들이 필요로 하는 지원은 학급당 학생 수 감축, 업무 무담 경감, 학부모 인식 및 협조 등이었다. 이러한 지원 사항들은 단순히 교사들의 관련 인식을 향상시키커나 필요한 지도방법 혹은 관련 교수-학습자료를 제공해도 해결되기 어려운 것들이었다. 연구결과에 기반하여 향후 대책으로 지도 여건의 조성, 신속 지원팀 구성, 정규 교과교육 시간의 지원 방안 마련 등을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper was to analyze the awareness of elementary school teachers about children with borderline intellectual functioning(BIF) and the support they need to educate them. A random sample of 162 general education teachers (excluding special and non-subject teachers) working in elementary schools across the country was selected from the elementary school teacher community to explore their awareness and understanding of children with BIF, their current practices regarding screening, diagnosis, and education, and their support needs. The results showed that while the majority of respondents were familiar with the terms and definitions of BIF, nearly two-thirds were not familiar with screening or diagnostic methods and tools. Despite this, about 24% of respondents reported that their schools were screening for children with BIF, with methods that were not significantly different from screening and diagnosing students with low achievement. Teachers also reported that they needed support with fewer students per classroom, less workload, and parental awareness and cooperation. These variables were difficult to resolve by simply raising teachers' awareness, providing them with the necessary teaching methods or relevant teaching and learning materials. Based on the results of the study, it was suggested to create a supportive environment, establish a quick support team, and provide support during regular school hours.
