사순절의 상징과 기억의 힘: “하나님께로 돌아오라”

국문 초록

교회의 상징은 우리의 신앙 표현을 다양하게 표현함으로써 바른 신학적 의미를 전달함이 목표이다. 이글은 사순절의 가장 대표적 상징 색깔인 보라색이 지닌 신학적 의미를 통해 상징과 기억이 지닌 신앙 형성 역할을 살펴본다. 시각적 이미지를 통해 전달되는 신학적 의미는 우리의 기억 속에 깊이 뿌리내려 때로 우리의 신앙을 지탱해주는 힘이 있다. 나아가 이 상징은 우리의 신앙을 함양하는 도구이면서 신학적 전달은 물론 현상적 예배 참여를 돕는다. 예배는 치유를 목적으로 행해지는 것이 아니다. 예배를 통해 결과적으로 치유가 일어날 수는 있다. 바람직한 예배와 상징에 대한 이해가 필요한데 사순절의 다양한 상징물을 활용한 예배 공간은 우리의 기억을 새롭게 한다. 따라서 이 글은 사순절의 상징에 대한 이해를 토대로, 우리가 하나님 앞에 어떤 존재인지 그리고 하나님은 어떤 분이신지를 서술한다. 사순절의 상징이 지닌 깊은 의미를 이해한다면 우리는 예전적 상징(liturgical symbol)을 통해 “하나님께 돌아오라”((메타노에이테 μετανοείτη)는 사순절 메시지를 들을 수 있다.

영문 초록

The symbols of the church become the correct expression of various faiths when understood based on the Bible. This article examines the relationship between symbolism and memory through the meaning of liturgical colour of Lent: purple. Purple is the most representative symbolic color of Lent. We examine how theology is communicated through visual images, and how this experience takes deep root in our memories and sometimes has the power to sustain our faith. Furthermore, we examine that this symbol is a tool for cultivating our faith and can help not only convey theology but also participate in phenomenal worship. Worship is not conducted for the purpose of healing. Worship is praise of God and our participation to express our thankfulness. Healing, of course, can occur through worshp, when we have experience the grace of God in worship. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the meaning of symbols, based on the biblical, theological, historical, and pastoral understanding. This article intends to help the understanding of the deep meaning of the liturgical symbols of Lent. Then he purpose of this article is to remember who we are in front of God, and who God is. When we understand the symbols of Lent, we can hear the message of Lent: “Return to God.”
