한국과 독일 청소년의 다문화태도에 관한 탐색적 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 독일과 한국 청소년의 다문화태도를 비교하여 바람직한 다문화 교육의 방향과 방법에 대한 시사점을 얻는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 한국 서울과 경기도에 있는 두 개 공립 중학교 2학년 4개 학급과 독일 Hessen 주와 Nordrhein-Westfalen 주의 Gesamtschule와 Realschule 8학년 5개 학급을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시했다. 회수된 질문지 중에서 분석이 불가능한 설문지를 제외하고 분석대상이 된 응답지는 독일이 205명, 한국이 203명이었다. 통계처리는 SPSS WIN v. 20을 사용하여 교차분석, t-test, ANOVA를 사용하였다. 또한 설문지 결과의 해석을 도움받기 위해 설문에 응답한 독일 청소년 5명과 한국 청소년 5명을 대상으로 집단면담을 실시하였다. 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 다문화태도는 독일 청소년이 한국 청소년 보다 개방적인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 독일 청소년은 성별에서 유의미한 차이가 발견되지 않았지만, 한국 청소년은 다문화태도에서 여자가 남자보다 높은 점수를 보였다. 셋째, 한국 청소년의 다문화태도는 다문화 교육 경험과 관계없었으나, 독일 청소년은 다문화 교육경험이 있는 청소년이 없는 청소년보다 유의미하게 개방적이었다. 넷째, 다문화가정 친구가 있는 청소년이 없는 청소년보다 다문화태도 점수가 높았다. 특히 독일 청소년의 경우 다문화 지식 영역에서 유의미하게 개방적인 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 다문화에 흥미가 있는 청소년이 그렇지 않은 청소년보다 독일, 한국 모두 통계적으로 유의미하게 다문화에 개방적 태도를 보였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the differences and similarities of the multicultural attitudes between German and Korean youth. For this matter, eighth-grade students(German youth: 205, Korean youth: 203) from 5 classes at Hessen and Nordrhein-Westfalen provinces in Germany and 4 middle school classes at Seoul and Gyeonggi-do in Korea, were surveyed. And 5 Germany youths and 5 Korean youths were interviewed. The questionnaire based on Munroe & Pearson(2006)’s MASQE(Multicultural Attitude Scale Questionnaire), included youth’ cognitive, emotional and behavioral descriptions about multicultural society. Drawing upon the survey and interviews data, the results raise several questions. First, Findings from this study revealed German youth were more positive attitude than Korean at multicultural society. One explanation for this result should consider the potential of the time of exposure to multicultural situation. Germany has more long multicultural history than Korea. And German youth reported they had more multicultural education experience than Korea. But a lot of exposure to multicultural situation dose not always effect positively multicultural attitude of youth. Therefore, further research could focus on the correlations between exposure to multicultural society and multicultural attitude. Second, German youth, who experienced multicultural education, was more positive attitude than the other group. However there was no statistically significant difference between two Korean group means on multicultural attitude. We should consider the quality and quantity of multicultural education in Korean. Third, Both of German and Korean youth, who had multicultural friends and were interested in multicultural society, have more positive multicultural attitude than the other groups. These findings mean the exposure of multicultural situation have positive effect on multicultural attitude.
