국문 초록

본 연구는 외국인 유학생의 진로 및 장기체류 의사 결정요인을 실증적으로 분석하는데 목적이 있다. 분석 자료는 2020년 이민자체류실태조사 및 고용조사이며, 로지스틱 회귀분석을 이용하였다. 분석은 두 차례에 걸쳐 행해졌으며, 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학업이후 진로계획을 결정짓는 요인은 선택범주별 상이하였다. 한국체류 대비 본국으로 귀국을 희망하는 경우 전공계열, 국적, 언어문제 및 유학동기가 강하게 작용하는 한편, 제 3국으로 출국을 희망하는 유학생은 학습적인 측면을 크게 고려하였다. 둘째, 진로계획에서 공통의 결정요인은 전공계열이다. 셋째, 장기체류를 결정짓는 주요 요인은 최종연령, 학력 수준, 체류기간과 언어속성으로 밝혀졌다. 언어 측면이 유학생의 의사결정에 큰 영향을 미칠 거라는 본 연구의 문제의식과 달리 언어속성은 영향을 미치는 요인이지만, 가장 중요한 결정요인은 아님을 확인하였다. 즉, 유학생의 장기체류에는 언어속성 외의 여러 요인이 복합적으로 작용함을 의미한다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 외국인 유학생 정책의 양성 및 활용에 관한 방안을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The main purpose of this research is to analyze the determinants of career planning and the long-term stay for international students. To analyze it, we use 2020 survey on Immigrants’ Living Conditions and Labour Force and logistic regression is used. The main findings are as follows: First, crucial variables of career planning after graduation differ as which categories belong to. Major, nationalities, language and the motivation of studying aboard are decisive variables for foreign students who decide to go back. However, students who have a plan to go to another country consider major and satisfaction of education in Korea as the key variables. Second, a common factor of the 1st analysis is major. Third, the determinants of the long-term stay are the level of education, age, length of stay, and language. Variables that belong to language categories are also how long they have learned Korean, speaking skill and language problems have effect on the decision of the long-term stay, but they are not the most decisive variables. Based on these results, this paper suggests a variety of policy implications related to international students.
