고교생의 졸업 후 진로계획 및 대학전공 설정과 학업성취도 간의 관계분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 고교생의 고교 졸업 후 진로계획과 대학전공 설정이 학업성취도와 맺고 있는 관계를 실증적으로 분석함으로써 고등학교 단계에서의 진학·진로교육 및 상담과 관련된 시사점을 도출하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 한국교육고용패널 II의 1, 2차 연도 자료를 활용하여 고교 2학년 시기의 졸업 후 진로계획 및 대학전공 설정 여부가 고교 3학년 시기의 학업성취도와 맺고 있는 관계를 중다회귀모형을 통하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 고교 2학년 시기에 대학진학 목표를 설정한 학생은 그렇지 않은 학생들에 비해 고교 3학년 시기의 학업성취도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 고교 2학년 시기에 대학진학을 계획한 학생들 중 대학전공을 설정한 학생들과 그렇지 않은 학생들 간의 고교 3학년 학업성취도 차이는 통계적으로 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 분석 결과를 토대로 본 연구는 고교생들에게 대학진학이라는 목표가 학생 개인의 학습동기를 유발할 수 있는 요소로서 학업성취도와 정적인 관계를 맺고 있음을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 고교생의 진학 및 진로교육·상담 시 목표 설정의 중요성을 학생들에게 강조할 필요가 있으며, 향후 본인의 적성과 흥미, 능력 등을 종합적으로 고려한 보다 실질적인 진로교육 및 상담이 이루어지기 위한 정책적 시사점을 제안하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

In this study, we investigated the relationship between high school students’ post-graduation career plans, college major choices and academic achievement. Drawing upon data from the first and second years of the Korean Education and Employment Panel II, we explored the relationship between students' post-graduation career plans, their choice of college major during the second year of high school, and their academic achievement in the third grade utilizing multiple regression approaches. The findings revealed a positive correlation between college aspiration during the second year of high school and higher academic achievement in the third year of high school. Students who set specific goals for college admission demonstrated a better academic performance compared to those who did not. Conversely, no statistically significant relationship is observed between college major choices during the second year of high school and their academic achievement in the third 3rd year of high school. Based on these results, it is confirmed that the aspiration to pursue college among high school students is positively related to academic achievement, serving as a motivating factor for individuals. Therefore, the findings of this study underscores the significance of goal-setting during the high school years, thereby the importance of career education and counseling. The findings of this research also have policy implications, highlighting the need to prioritize goal-setting among high school students and provide adequate support for students’ career development.
