국문 초록

풍납토성은 1997년부터 지금까지 약 25년 동안 많은 방면에서 조사 및 연구가 이루어져 왔지만 일부 성벽이 유실됨에 따라 그 범위를 명확하게 파악할 수 없었다. 하지만 최근까지 이루어진 고고학적 조사결과의 축적으로 서성벽 및 동성벽 유실구간에서 성벽의 진행방향을 어느 정도 파악할 수 있게 되었으며, 그에 따라 성벽의 범위 및 규모에 대한 재검토가 필요하다. 서성벽의 경우 올림픽대로에 가로막혀 조사와 연구의 범위가 그 내부로 한정되는 경향이 있었으나 최근까지의 조사결과 올림픽대로 밑으로 성벽의 범위가 더욱 확장되는 것으로 보이며, 동성벽 역시 유실구간 지표 하에 성벽이 그대로 남아 있는 것이 확인되었다. 더불어 동성벽 전 구간에 해자가 남아 있을 가능성이 크다. 따라서 성벽의 범위는 서성벽은 한강 방향으로 더욱 확대될 가능성이 크고, 동성벽 역시 해자의 범위가 포함됨에 따라 성벽의 범위가 확장될 여지가 크다. 성벽의 범위 확장은 곧 전체 규모의 확장으로도 이어져 기존에 3.5km로 추정되었던 풍납토성의 규모 역시 수정이 필요한 시점이다.

영문 초록

Pungnaptoseong Earthen Wall Fortress has been investigated and studied in many ways for about 25 years, from 1997 to the present day, but the scope of the site could not be clearly grasped as some sections of the fortress walls had been lost. However, due to the accumulation of archaeological findings resuting from excavations that were conducted until recently, it was possible to gain an understanding of the direction of the walls in the lost sections of the West Wall and the East Wall. Accordingly, it has become necessary to reconfirm the scope and size of the earthen rampart. In the case of the West Wall, the scope of investigations and research tended to be limited to the inner side, due to the Olympic Expressway blocking access, but recent investigations have confirmed that the wall expanded further below the Olympic Expressway, and that the lost section of the East Wall remained under the surface. In addition, there is a high possibility that the moat associated with the entire length of the East Wall may still be intact. Therefore, the scope of the West Wall is also likely to expand further in the direction of the Han River, and the scope of the East Wall is also likely to expand further, if the scope of the moat is included. The expansion of the range of earthen rampart has brought about the expansion of the entire scale of the site. Therefore, the previously estimated to length of Pungnaptoseong Fortress, which is 3.5km, needs to be modified.
