국문 초록

연구목적: 이 연구는 프랑크푸르트학파가 주도한 비판이론의 핵심 개념인 ‘물화’를 토대로 21세기의 소비자본주의와 상품물신화, 탈인격화 현상을 진단함으로써 교육이 이전보다 나은 사회를 위해 어떠한 역할을 할 수 있을지에 대해 비판적으로 소고하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구방법: 이러한 연구 목적에 맞추어 이 연구는 크게 두 단계로 연구를 진행된다. 첫 단계에서는 우리 삶 속에서 드러나고 있는 비합리적이고 불의적인 현상이 물화와 어떤 관련이 있는지 주목하고 20세기 이후 이를 이론적으로 검토해 온 프랑크푸르트학파 지식인들의 물화 논의를 분석한다. 이를 위해 물화 개념을 처음 제시한 루카치와 그에게서 영향을 받은 프랑크푸르트학파 1세대(호르크하이머, 아도르노), 미국망명기의 활동가와 2세대 비판이론가(마르쿠제, 하버마스), 그리고 21세기의 3세대 비판이론가(호네트)의 물화 인식을 주요 문헌을 통해 확인한다. 이어 두 번째 단계에서는 프랑크푸르트학파 비판이론가들에 의해 조명된 물화 개념이 어떻게 사회를 비판하는 기제가 되는지를 토대로 물화의 속성을 파악한다. 그리고 물화가 교육학적으로 어떤 함의를 지니고 있으며, 그 비판적 실천을 위한 교육의 역할은 무엇인지 연구한다. 연구결과: 이로써 이 연구는 소비자본주의와 상품경제의 발달로 나타나는 사회 문제들을 포함해 교육 현안을 물화 논의를 통해 규명함으로써 인간의 긍정적인 자기 관계 형성과 상호존중의 가치와 문화 조성을 위한 교육이 무엇인지를 비판적으로 사유할 수 있는 성찰의 토대를 제시한다. 논의 및 결론: 이러한 맥락에서 이 연구는 20세기에 이어 21세기까지의 물화 개념에 대한 비판이론의 계보를 체계화하고 그에 따라 현대 교육학의 지향점을 조명함으로써 교육학의 이론적, 실천적 토대와 그 지평을 확장한다는 점에서 중요한 의미를 지닌다.

영문 초록

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to critically examine the role that education can play for a better society by diagnosing the phenomena of consumer capitalism in the 21st century based on “reification,” which is the core concept of critical theory led by the Frankfurt School. Method: According to the purpose of this study, In the first stage this study focused on the relationship between reification and irrational and unjust phenomena in our lives, and analyzed the discussions of reification by intellectuals of the Frankfurt School. And In the second stage, the properties of reification were examined based on how the concept of reification that critical theorists of the Frankfurt School illuminated may become a mechanism for societal critique. The educational implications of reification and the role of education in its critical practice were also examined. Results: Thus, this study investigated educational issues, including social problems arising from the development of consumer capitalism, through a discussion of reification and proposed a foundation for reflection that can critically discuss the meaning of education in forming positive self-relationships, the value of mutual respect, and culture. Conclusion: In this context, this study is meaningful in that it widened the theoretical and practical foundations and expanded the horizons of education by systematizing the genealogy of critical theories on the concept of reification from the 20th century to the 21st century and illuminating the direction of modern education.
