국문 초록

본 연구는 유아의 기질 및 어머니의 언어통제가 유아의 숙달 동기에 미치는 상대적 영향력에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 연구대상은 경기도에 거주하는 만 3~5세 유아 256명과 그들의 어머니이다. 수집된 자료는 Pearson 적률 상관과 단계적 중다 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 유아의 기질, 어머니의 언어통제는 유아의 숙달 동기의 하위요인인 도구적 숙달 동기, 표현적 숙달 동기와 상관관계가 나타났다. 둘째, 유아의 기질, 어머니의 언어통제가 숙달 동기에 미치는 상대적 영향력을 살펴본 결과 유아의 기질과 어머니의 언어통제는 유아의 숙달 동기의 하위요인인 도구적 숙달 동기와 표현적 숙달 동기에 영향을 주었다. 본 연구는 유아의 숙달 동기에 대해 유아의 기질과 어머니의 언어통제가 영향을 미치는 과정을 규명하였으며, 유아의 기질에 적합한 어머니의 언어통제 방식의 중요성을 입증함으로써 유아의 숙달 동기를 발달시키기 위해 사용될 수 있는 자료를 제공하였다는 데 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the relative influence of young children’s temperament and their mothers’ verbal control on their motivation for mastery. The research participants consisted of 256 mother and young child pairs residing in Gyeonggi-Do, Korea. The collected data were analyzed through Pearson’s correlation and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The implications of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the children's temperament and the mother’s verbal control were correlated with instrumental mastery motivation and expressive mastery motivation, which are sub-factors of children's mastery motivation. Second, as a result of examining the relative influence of children's temperament and mother’s verbal control on children's mastery motivation, children's temperament and mother’s verbal control influenced instrumental mastery motivation and expressive mastery motivation, which are sub-factors of children's mastery motivation. This study is meaningful in that it investigated the process through which children’s temperament and their mothers’ verbal control affect the children’s mastery motivation and provided data that can be used to developing children’s mastery motivation by evidencing the importance of mothers’ verbal control appropriate for their children’s temperament.
