국문 초록

본 연구는 내담자의 자살에 대한 학교전문상담사의 경험에 대해 질적연구 방법으로 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 내담자를 자살로 상실한 경험이 있는 중학교 전문상담사와 심층 면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였고 자료 분석 결과는 아래와 같다. 상담사는 내담자의 자살 이후 내적 경험, 외적 갈등, 변화의 과정을 경험하는 것으로 나타났다. 먼저, 상담자는 자살한 내담자를 돌아보며 자신의 잣대로 그를 평가 했던 지난날의 모습을 성찰하고 후회하였으며, 슬픔과 같은 정서와 내담자에 대한 침습적 사고를 경험하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 상담자는 외부적으로 사건 수습과 책임 소재의 문제를 경험했다. 그리고 내담자의 자살 이후 현재 만나는 학생들과의 관계성을 새롭게 인식하며, 있는 그대로의 모습으로 그들을 보고 환대하고자 하였다. 그렇게 그는 아픔을 딛고 진정한 상담자로 성장하기 위해 노력하였다. 본 연구에서는 상담자가 내담자의 자살 이후 환경적 제약으로 인하여 온전한 애도의 과정을 경험하지 못하였으며 해결되지 않은 애도의 문제가 상담사의 삶에 지속적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 내담자의 자살이라는 사건 이후 상담자가 부담해야 할 사건 수습의 업무와 책임소재의 문제로부터 상담자를 보호해야 하며, 상담사의 애도를 도울 수 있는 지지체계를 마련할 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to analyze the experiences of school counselors regarding the suicide of clients by a qualitative research method. For this purpose, data were collected through in-depth interviews with a middle school counselor who had experience of losing a client to suicide, and the data analysis results are as follows. Counselors were found to experience internal experiences, external conflicts, and processes of change after the client s suicide. First, the counselor looked back on the suicide client, reflected on the past when he was evaluated by his own standards and regretted it, and it was found that he experienced emotions such as sadness and invasive thoughts about the client. In addition, the counselor externally experienced the problem of handling the case and locating responsibility. Also, after the client s suicide, he recognized the relationship with the current students and tried to welcome them as they are. So he overcame the pain and tried to grow as a true counselor. In this study, it was found that the counselor did not experience the complete mourning process due to environmental constraints after the client s suicide, and that unresolved problems of mourning have a lasting impact on the counselor s life. Therefore, it suggests the need to protect the counselor from the problem of the task and responsibility for handling the case that the counselor has to bear after the client s suicide, and it is necessary to prepare a support system to help the counselor s grieving.
