국문 초록

이 논문은 근본주의에 대한 논의가 무성하고 생성원인에 관한 다양한 담론을 극복하고, 정확하게 이 현상이 왜 생겨났고, 사회와 문화에 어떤 효과를 만들어 나가는지 분석하고 있다. 이 논문은 과학의 발달과 상대적 가치관이 확립되어 가면서, 부동의 실체 안에서 안정성을 찾으려는 것이 근본주의의 발생 원인이며, 이러한 보수적 가치관이 정치운동화 될 때에 마침내 근본주의라고 이름할 수 있다라고 주장한다. 이 논문은 이 시각으로 미국과 한국의 기독교 근본주의에 관해서 분석한다. 미국에서 근본주의가 발생한 원인을 현대주의에서 흔들리는 정체성과 대중화된 칼빈주의의 결합에서 찾고 있으며, 부시이후, 미국기독교 근본주의자들이 어떠한 힘을 발휘하고 있는지 분석한다. 또한, 이 논문은 어떻게 미국의 근본주의가 한국에 이식되었으며, 미국과 동일한 패턴으로 종교가 정치에 참여하며 자신의 입지를 강화하고 성장하고 있는지 분석한다. 결론에서, 이 논문은 근본주의 상황에 대한 다원화된 교육적 대안을 제시하면서 글을 마친다.

영문 초록

Although there has been various discourses about fundamentalism, we seldom find clear definition on fundamentalism so far. This thesis defines what fundamentalism and analyzes how it produces diverse effects in society and culture. This thesis argues that when the development of science and relative values have dominated modern culture, people turns to security, which instigates the birth of fundamentalism. When this conservative value becomes political movement, we finally calls it ‘fundamentalism.’ This thesis analizes American and Korean Christian fundamentalism. This thesis finds the origin of American Christian fundamentalism from the combination of shaking modern identity and popular Calvinistic idea. In addtion, this thesis also illustrates the development of fundamentalism in George W. Bush government of the U.S. In addition, this thesis describes how the fundamentalism in America has been transferred to Korea. Korean fundamentalists bench-marks those of America, and actively participate in matters of politics. In conclusion, this thesis suggests pluralistic education to get beyond the culture of fundamentalism.
