국문 초록

본 연구는 초기 성인기의 자해행동을 이해하기 위하여 성인 516명 중 자해 경험이 있는 132명의 자료를 분석하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 응답자들의 초발 자해행동은 평균 15.70세(SD = 3.11)에 시작되었고, 고의로 자신을 때리거나, 깨물거나, 벽이나 책상 등에 머리를 부딪히는 행동을 많이 하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 자해행동 시작 계기에 대한 다중응답분석결과, ‘우연히 자해라는 것을 발견해서(45,7%)’가 가장 많았다. 셋째, 자해 경험이 있는 집단이 비(非)자해집단에 비해 의사소통기술을 제외한 심리부적응 관련 변인(정서강도 및 반응성, 분리 상실 경험, 파국화, 고통감내력 부족, 감정표현 불능, 사회적 문제 해결 부족)의 수준이 유의하게 높았다. 넷째, 자해행동을 판별해주는 예측변인을 탐색한 결과, ‘정서강도 및 반응성’이 높을수록, ‘분리 상실 경험’이 많을수록, ‘고통감내력’이 부족할수록 자해경험이 있는 집단으로 분류될 확률이 높았다. 다섯째, 수정된 통합적 자해행동모형(Comprehensive theoretical models of nonsuicidal self-injury; Jacobson & Batejan, 2014)의 검증을 위해 경로분석을 한 결과, 정서강도 및 반응성은 고통감내력 부족을 통해 자해행동에 간접적으로 영향을 미치고, 분리 상실 경험은 자해행동에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로 본 연구의 의의와 한계점에 대해 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This study examined the characteristics and the engagement mechanism of self-injury based on multifaceted risk factors suggested by the revised version of comprehensive theoretical models of non-suicidal self-injury. Among the total of 516 participants, 132 young adults who reported self-injurious behavior were used for the analysis. The results indicated that group with self-injury experiences showed significantly more signs of psychological maladaptation (e.g., higher trait affect intensity and lower distress tolerance) than the group without engagement in self-injury. Among the risk factors, trait affect intensity, childhood separation or loss experience and low distress tolerance were significant predictors of the engagement in self-injury. The path analytic results revealed that affect intensity showed an indirect effect on the engagement in self-injury via low distress tolerance, while the childhood separation or loss experience directly predicted the engagement in self-injury. The implications and limitations of the study were discussed.
