국문 초록

본 연구는 다문화시대, 사회·문화적 변화에 따른 초등미술교육의 의미와 영향력을 재 고찰함으로써 미술교육의 사회적 역할과 과제를 규명하는데에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해, 먼저 한국과 일본의 다문화교육의 배경과 전개, 특징 등을 개괄적으로 살펴보고, 초등현장에서 미술과 교육의 특질과 의미, 어린이의 소통의 매체로서의 미술활동에 대해 재 고찰하였다. 또한 미술교육적 관점에서 다문화시대에 적합한 미술활동사례들을 소개하였다. 어린이의 상상력과 창조력을 주체적으로 발휘시키는 미술과의 다양한 활동과정은, 개개인의 표현력의 향상을 넘어 서로의 마음을 이어주고 교감하게 하는 특성을 갖는다. 현행 미술과 교육과정은 사회·문화적 변화를 고려하여 개정의 기본방향을 설정하고 미술교육의 사회적, 문화적 성격을 강조하고 있다. 연구결과, 시각이미지를 통해 다른 사람과 소통하는 미술교육의 사회적 역할은 궁극적으로 다름의 수용과 상생을 향한 협력과 조화의 생명활동을 실천해가는 것임을 제시하였다. 미술교육은 다름에 대한 이해와 포용, 소통과 융합이라는 방향과 목표를 향해 정진해갈 때, 비로소 다문화시대에 보다 나은 미래세계의 창조에 기여하게 된다. 그리고, 그 과정에서 극복해야 할 다양한 문제들에 대한 구체적인 지도와 해법의 탐색이 바로 미술교육의 과제라고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to clarify the social role and tasks of art education by reconsidering the meaning and impact of art education in the elementary schools with respect to the socio-cultural change in the multicultural society. To this end, the researcher has briefly reconsidered the background, development, and features of multicultural education in Korea and Japan, has reviewed the meaning and characteristics of elementary art education, and has delved into children s art activities as a medium of communication. The researcher has also presented cases of art activities appropriate for the multicultural society in terms of elementary art education. The process of diverse art activities which bring children to self initiative imagination and creativity, has the features of sympathy which bridges each other s minds. These features are not solely confined within the boundary of increasing the expressive power of individuals. As the result, this study indicates that the social role of art education is to communicate with other people by visual image, and is ultimately to implement the cooperative and harmonious activities of the life toward the mutual acceptance of difference and coordination for win-win. The art education can contribute to the creation for the better future of the multicultural society by focusing the directions and goal toward the understanding, acceptance, communication, and convergence of the differences. In this sense, it can be said that the tasks of art education is to explore the concrete solutions to overcome various problems in the process of doing art education in the elementary schools.
