협동적 미술 활동을 통한 평화교육의 실천

국문 초록

본 연구는 키즈 게르니카 평화의 벽화 프로젝트에 대한 교육적 효과를 탐색하고자 사회적, 역사적, 문화적으로 다르게 규정되어 온 평화교육의 의미와 평화교육의 영역에 대하여 논의하였다. 키즈 게르니카 평화의 벽화 프로젝트(Kids Guernica International Children Peace Mural Project)의 발생 배경과 목적, 그리고 교육 철학을 소개하고, 2010년 10월부터 11월까지 1개월간 필자가 직접 계획하여 실시한 키즈 게르니카 프로젝트 실천 과정과 결과에 대하여 논의하였다. 마지막으로 키즈 게르니카 프로젝트 과정에서 나타나는 협동적 미술 표현을 통한 창의적 문제해결과 문제의 통합적 접근을 통한 “앎”의 구성 측면의 교육적 가치에 대하여 조명하였다.

영문 초록

This paper suggests peace education as education for life, which focuses on fostering awareness of otherness, respect for others and human rights, and intercultural understanding, nurturing competency to realize peace in one s life. The concept of peace has been defined in many different meanings in accordance with nationalism and political ideology. Peace education also has dealt with extensive areas, including anti-war and anti-nuclear movement, racism, environmental issues, and so on, according to the country s or region s particular political and historical situations. However, peace education needs to be understood as helpful to facilitate not only critical thinking against anti-peaceful circumstances but also behavioral attitudes and skills to realize win-win communities based on peaceful and harmonious human relationships. Kids Guernica International Children Peace Mural Project was introduced as an exemplar to further integrating values of peace education with collaborative art making. Its educational potentials were discussed in two aspects: creative problem-solving through collaborative art making and construction and internalization of knowledge through interdisciplinary approach.
