국문 초록

본 논문은 전통회화의 우의와 상징체계를 통해 전통회화에 대한 관심과 이해를 증진시키는 데 목적이 있다. 서구의 영향이 강한 문화 환경에서 자라난 학생들에게는 전통회화는 어색하고 난해한 분야가 아닐 수 없다. 이런 문제를 극복하고, 올바른 전통회화의 이해를 도모하기 위해서는 조형적인 접근뿐만 아니라, 그 속에 담긴 의미와 효용가치를 주지시킬 필요가 있다. 전통회화 속에는 그것을 창출하고 향유했던 선인(先人)들의 미적 향수(享受)뿐만 아니라, 자신들이 꿈꾸던 이상과 욕망이 내재되어 있기 때문이다. 특히 사군자(四君子), 화훼영모(花卉翎毛), 어해(魚蟹) 등으로 일컬어지는 동식물 그림들에서 그러한 면이 두드러지게 나타난다. 이와 같은 우의와 상징은 전통회화를 이해하는 데도 필수적일 뿐만 아니라, 그 속에 스며든 옛 조상들의 정신과 삶을 이해하고 교감하는 데 많은 도움을 받을 수 있다. 또한 전통회화를 보다 친근하고 현실적인 그림으로 재인식하게 하는 계기를 제공한다. 이런 점에서 전통회화의 소재가 지닌 우의와 상징들은 전통회화의 이해를 위한 방편으로 충분한 효용과 가치를 지니고 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study lies in seeking for understanding about traditional painting through various allegories and symbols which were used for traditional painting. Traditional painting must be awkward and cryptic for the students of today growing surrounded by the environment strongly influenced by Western culture. A correct education of traditional painting getting over such problem requires aesthetical approach along with the understanding of the meaning and effective value inherent in the traditional paintings. It s because there lies aesthetic enjoyment of our predecessors and their ideal they dreamed of and realistic desire in the traditional paintings. particularly, those paintings with the materials of animals & plants are distinctive in that matters. Such allegory and symbol are essential for understanding traditional painting and getting a great deal of help necessary to know and commune with the spirits and lives of our ancestors penetrated in those painting. Besides, they are also the elements enabling us to recognize anew the traditional painting more closely and as realistic paintings, In this sense, the allegory and symbol of the traditional painting hold sufficient usefulness and values to be understanding about traditional paintings.
