국문 초록

수묵화 수업은 그 재료와 도구의 특성 때문에 작품 제작 동기나 의미보다는 기법 측면에 더 중점을 두는 경향이 있다. 이 수묵화 표현 활동은 ‘무엇을, 어떻게 그릴 것인가?’뿐만 아니라 ‘왜 그리는가?’라는 예술 수업 본래의 질문으로부터 시작되었다. 먼저 참고작품을 보고 표현하고자 하는 의도가 어떤 기법으로 나타났는지 파악한다. 이어 자신의 취향에 따라 나무를 선택하고 관찰하며 스케치하고 수묵화를 제작하는 과정에서 자신의 내면을 투영하는 데 관심을 갖게 된다. 이 표현 활동의 효과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 일상적인 대상을 다양한 시각으로 자세히 관찰하면서 자신이 그리고자 하는 뜻을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 자신만의 방식으로 대상을 그리면서 내면을 표현하고 성찰하며 성장하는 기회를 가질 수 있었다. 셋째, 수묵화의 기술적인 어려움보다 예측할 수 없는 우연 효과를 수용하는 긍정적인 효과가 있었다. 마지막으로, 결과에 연연하지 않고 나만의 그림을 완성할 수 있다는 생각에 과정을 즐기고 몰입할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

Due to the nature of the tools and materials of Sumuk painting, Sumuk painting courses tend to focus on technical aspects rather than the motivations and intentions behind the process of creating. This program began by asking “Why should we paint?” rather than “What and how should we paint?” Students studied example works and analyzed how particular artistic intentions were realized through appropriate techniques. They then chose trees according to their own tastes. Through carefully observing, sketching, and producing Sumuk paintings, they became interested and motivated to express their inner thoughts and feelings. The pedagogical significance of this program was as follows. First, by observing and representing ordinary objects from diverse perspectives, students were led to discover their own motivations behind painting. Second, through painting in their own ways, students had the chance to express, reflect on, and learn their own thoughts and feelings. Third, rather than being discouraged by the technical difficulties of Sumuk painting, students were motivated to accept serendipitous outcomes. Lastly, having their own motivation helped students focus on the process of creating without stressing over producing technically sophisticated works.
