국문 초록

키에르케고르의 자아이론은, 인간의 자아는 ‘무한성과 유한성, 시간성과 영원성, 자유와 필연성’이라는 서로 대립하는 요소들의 종합’을 본질로 하는 존재로서 신과 관계를 맺는 방향으로 실현되어야 한다는 것을 핵심으로 한다. 그에 따르면, 신과 관계를 맺지 못한 자아는 절망의 상태에 있으며, 자아실현이라는 것은 절망을 벗어나서 신앙으로 나아가는 운동을 가리킨다. 절망은 정의상 신앙이 없는 상태를 가리키지만, 그것에 관한 의식이 고양되는 것은 신앙에 대한 열망이 고조된다는 것을 뜻하며, 이 점에서 그것은 자아실현의 계기가 된다고 볼 수 있다. 절망이 자아를 신앙으로 밀어올리는 반발력으로 작용할 수 있다는 것은 그리스도가 전달자로 등장하는 간접전달의 상황에서 가장 여실하게 드러난다. 상심의 가능성은 이 상황에서의 절망을 가리키는 용어이다. 간접전달은 자아를 상심의 가능성으로 이끄는 전달방법으로서, 자아실현을 위한 조력의 과정이 어떤 조건을 갖추어야 하는가를 심오한 수준에서 보여준다.

영문 초록

In Kierkegaard s The Sickness unto Death, man is construed as a synthesis[relation] of the infinite and the finite, of the temporal and the eternal, of freedom and necessity , and the self is defined as the third term , which makes possible the relation[synthesis] relating itself to its own self . For Kierkegaard, the process of self-realization must be directed toward the faith that the self is grounded transparently in the Power which posited it . The phrase, relation relating itself to its own self , can be interpreted as the whole process of life-long striving for the self -realization. Despair, in Kierkegaard s sense, is the disrelation in the relation (synthesis), which results in The Sickness unto Death . The qualification of before God makes despair infinitely intensified and synonymous with sin. When one meets face to face with Christ, his self is to be confronted with the possibility of offence as the most intensified despair , which is caused by the paradoxical being of God-man beyond human understanding. The possibility of offence can serve as the repellent force by which one is propelled to the faith in order not to be fallen to offence. Kierkegaard criticised Hegelian speculative philosophy in that it transmuted the paradox of God-man into an abstract synthesis of God and man, got rid of the possibility of offence inseparably attached to the being of Christ, and then changed Christianity into a kind of pantheism which can be communicated directly. In the light of Kierkegaard s interpretation of despair as a moment of self-realization, the discourse of indirect communication can be read as the key to understanding what it means to exist as a self and to realize one s own self through the lived experience of participating in educational practice.
