국문 초록

지식의 원천 문제, 즉 지식의 성격과 가치 문제는 ‘사회적 인식론’의 영역에서 다루는 핵심 문제 중의 하나이다. 이 문제에 대해 풀러(S. Fuller)와 골드만(Alvin I. Goldman)은 서로 다른 견해를 제시하고 있다. 이 두 사람의 입장 차이는 인식론과 형이상학을 관련짓는 방식의 차이로 파악될 수 있다. 풀러는 형이상학으로부터 인식론을 분리하여 ‘욕구충족의 인식론’을 구축하고 있다. 이와는 달리 골드만은 진리론을 중심으로 하여 인식론과 형이상학의 결합을 시도하고 있다. ‘진리연계 인식론’(veritistic epistemology)과 ‘기술-성공 이론’(descriptive-success theory)은 각각 형이상학과 결합된 인식론, 인식론과 결합된 형이상학을 가리켜 부르는 이름이다.

영문 초록

The problem of the origins of knowledge, that is the problem of nature and justification of knowledge, is one of the central problems in the territory of social epistemology . The two leading social epistemologists, S. Fuller and Alvin I. Goldman, present completely different answers to the problem. The difference between Fuller and Goldman can be understood by the relationship between epistemology and metaphysics. Fuller distinguishes epistemology from metaphysics, and constructs desire-linked epistemolology . On the contrary, Goldman tries to combine epistemology with metaphysics on the basis of the theory of truth: Veristic epistemology refers to an ontology-based epistemology, and descriptive-success theory an epistemology-based metaphysics.
