국문 초록

가톨릭교회의 문화유산은 긴 역사와 함께 그리스도교적 보편성과 유형적․지역적 다양성과 특수성이 공존하는 매우 독특한 특징을 지닌다. 교회 문화유산은 전례와 교리교육 그리고 자선 활동을 위한 도구로서 역사적․예술적으로 그 중요성이 강조된다. 이에 가톨릭교회는 교회 문화유산에 대한 보호와 보전 그리고 활용을 위한 관리 체계를 정립하게 된다. 특히 제2차바티칸공의회와 교황 요한 바오로 2세는 제2차 세계대전 전후(戰後) 교회 문화유산의 파괴와 훼손에 대한 경각심과 예술사적으로 포스트모더니즘 시대의 교회와 예술과의 관계에 대한 성찰에 집중했다. 반면 후임 교황 베네딕도 16세는 교회 문화유산의 관리에 대한 부분보다 교회와 사회․문화․지역들과의 관계 안에서 문화유산의 역할과 활용에 무게 중심을 두었다. 이와 같은 보편교회와 교황청의 교회 문화유산에 대한 관리 체계의 변화는 교회법령들과 교황청의 조직 체계의 변화를 통해 확인할 수 있다. 한국을 비롯한 지역교회는 이러한 보편교회의 문화유산 관련 체계의 변화를 인지하고 적극 반영할 수 있어야 한다.

영문 초록

Owing to its long history, the cultural heritage of the Catholic Church is characterized by the unique coexistence of its universality and its categorical and regional diversity and distinctiveness. The cultural heritage of the Church flaunts its historical and artistic significance maximized by its role in ‘liturgy’, ‘catechism education’ and ‘charity work’. Thus, the Catholic Church has established a management system for the preservation, protection and conservation of the its cultural heritage. The Second Vatican Council and Pope John Paul II addressed the need for careful attentiveness over the destruction and damage of the cultural heritage of the Church in the Post-War era as well as the reflection of the relationship between the Church and the Arts in the Postmodernist epoch. His successor Pope Benedict XVI, however, focused on the role and usage of the cultural heritage within the Church’s social, cultural and regional connections rather than the maintenance of the cultural heritage itself. Such shift in the Universal Church’s and the Roman Curia’s management system of the cultural heritage of the Church are confirmed by the changes in the decretals and the organizational system of the Roman Curia. Regional Churches, including South Korea, are obliged to recognize and aptly adapt to the Universal Church’s changing systems regarding the cultural heritage.
