청동기시대 중기 적색마연토기 연구: 충청·전북 지역을 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 청동기시대 중기 충청·전북 지역에서 출토되는 적색마연토기의 기종별 변천 양상을 파악하고, 동시에 토기의 기술적 양식을 통한 특수성과 보편성에 주목하여 지역적 특징을 이해하는 데 목적을 둔다. 대상 지역은 세부적으로 아산만, 충청 서해안, 금강 중상류, 금강 중하류, 만경강 유역으로 구분하였다. 기종에 따라세부 속성을 분석하여 형식을 설정하였고, 발생순서배열법을 이용하여 시간성을 파악하였다. 순서 배열의 타당성은 출토 유구 및 공반 유물의 시간성을 통해 검토하였으며, 더불어 방사성탄소연대를 참고하여 보완하였다. 적색마연토기 각 기종은 단위 지역 내 다양한 양상으로 전개되는데, 이는 청동기시대 중기의 사회·문화적 변화와 연동되는 것으로 추정된다. 청동기시대 중기에 접어들어 기술이나 자원의 교류(혹은 유통) 범위의 축소와 더불어 토기 소성유구의 증가는 각 단위 지역 내 적색마연토기의 지역성이 더욱 뚜렷하게 발현되는 결과를 초래하였을 것으로 생각된다. 적색마연토기의 차별적 전개 양상은 지역에 따라 매장 의례에도 적잖은 영향을 끼쳤던 것으로 보인다. 이 같은 지역적 차별성과 동시에 여러 단위 지역을 아우르는 적색마연토기 제작 기술의 공유 양상도 확인된다. 단위 지역의 경계를 넘어서는 기종 및 기형의 공유는 청동기시대 중기충청·전북 지역의 단위 지역 간 보편성을 반영하며, 지역에 따른 적색마연토기 용도의 차별성, 형식의 차이는단위 지역 내 특수성을 보여주는 고고 자료로 해석할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to comprehend the transition patterns of various forms of red burnished pottery discovered throughout the Chungcheong and Jeonbuk provinces in the Middle Bronze Age and understand regionality through pottery style, paying particualr attention to the distinctiveness and universality of red burnished pottery. For this purpose, the Chungcheong and Jeonbuk provinces were further divided into the Asan Bay area, the west coast area, the area of the upper and middle reaches of the Geum River, the area of the middle and lower reaches of the Geum River, and the Mangyeong River area. To understand the transition patterns of each type over time, occurrence seriation was applied to each type and the order of arrangement was compared to archaeological features and artifacts. Radiocarbon dating was used to verify the temporal context of each type. Each type of red burnished pottery developed in various ways in each regional unit, this presumably being related to the social-cultural changes that took place in the Middle Bronze Age. The decrease in the spread or exchange of resources and technologies in the Middle Bronze Age, accompanied by an increase in the number of kilns, is considered to have provided the foundations for more distinctive regional characteristics. These distinctive developmental aspects are considered to have affected the social use of red burnished pottery as burial goods. At the same time, this regionality was also accompanied by the sharing of technology for red burnished pottery, encompassing several regions. This reflects the commonality that existed among regions during the Middle Bronze Age. Differences in the use and type of red burnished pottery among regions can be interpreted as archaeological data reflecting the specific nature of the region.
