청련사 예수시왕생칠재의 의례주체와 설행양상

국문 초록

청련사에서 전승되는 예수재를 민속학적 관점에서 살펴 네 가지 양상으로 분석하였다. 첫째, 청련사는 조선시대에 ‘동청련 서백련’의 양대 열반계 사찰로 지정되어 현세에서 죽음을 생각하는 의미가 두드러진 역사를 지녔다. 아울러 1960년대부터 예수재를 치른 유형ㆍ무형의 자료가 전하여 의례의 신앙적 기반과 전승내력을 읽을 수 있다는 점을 들 수 있다. 둘째, 예수재의 핵심기반인 범패와 작법무와 장엄을 사중에서 온전히 감당하며 전승해왔다는 점이다. 어산과 장엄을 담당하는 승려가 절대부족인 한국불교의 현실에서, 여러 세대의 승려들이 대물림으로 이어오는 가운데 독자적인 용상방을 구성할 수 있었다. 셋째, 중양절예수재와 윤달예수재뿐만 아니라, 재자 단독으로 주관하는 독설판예수재가 활성화되어 있다. 이러한 합동과 독설판의 예수재를 칠칠재로 행하고 있어, 망자를 위한 우란분재ㆍ사십구재의 칠칠재와 대귀를 이루며 생전의 수행정진을 이끌고 있다. 또한 위패를 봉안하는 법당에는 망자위패와 나란히 생자위패를 모시면서 ‘자행과 타행’, ‘생전과 사후’를 연계하는 패러다임의 신앙양상을 보여준다. 넷째, 의례의 여러 구성요소에서 서울ㆍ경기 지역의 특성을 살필 수 있고, 산화락번ㆍ시주번ㆍ총명지 등 다른 곳에서 보기 힘든 장엄과 의례요소들이 전승되고 있다는 점이다. 각종 장엄이 다양하게 발달되고 시주를 부각시키는 시주번을 중시하는 점, 문서로 작성하는 요소가 활성화되어 있는 점, 상단에 각상의 소반을 사용하는 점 등에서 왕실과 지배층의 재를 많이 치러온 역사와 연관성을 짐작해볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

The Yesujae(預修齋) which has been passed down in the Cheongryeon Temple, was analyzed in four aspects from a folklore perspective. First, the Cheongryeon Temple was designated as the two main Nirvana system(涅槃系) temples of 東靑蓮 西白蓮 during the Joseon Dynasty, and it has a remarkable history of thinking about death in the mundane world. In addition, because the tangible and intangible data of the Yesujae(預修齋) since the 1960s can be delivered, it was able to identify the religious basis and history of the rite. Second, the core bases of the Yesujae(預修齋), Beompae(梵唄), Jakbeopmu(作法舞), and Jangeom(莊嚴), have been performed and handed down in the temple. In the reality of Korean Buddhism, where there is an absolute shortage of monks in charge of the chanting master and Jangeom(莊嚴), through generations of monks coming from generation to generation, it was possible to organize its own Yongsangbang(龍象榜). Third, not only the Yesujae(預修齋) of Double Ninth Festival(重陽節) and the Yesujae(預修齋) of leap month, but also the Yesujae(預修齋) of independence, which are administered exclusively by Jaeja(齋者), is active. Such a joint and the Yesujae(預修齋) of independence have been performed as Chilchiljae(七七齋), leading the way to the religious purification of a lifetime by forming Funeral Ceremonies along with Chilchiljae(七七齋) of Uranbunjae(盂蘭盆齋)ㆍ49Jae(四十九齋) for the deceased. In addition, in the Buddhist sanctuary, where the memorial tablet is enshrined, the memorial tablet for a living person is served alongside the memorial tablet for the deceased. This shows the faith aspect of the paradigm of connecting lifetime and afterlife. Fourth, several components of the rite show the characteristics of Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. Jangeom(莊嚴) and the ceremonial elements, which are rarely seen elsewhere are being transferred. One can guess the connection with a long history of ritualistic conduct for the royal family and the ruling class, such as the importance of Shijubun(施主幡), which emphasizes the development of various Jangeom(莊嚴), the point where the elements to be created by the documents is activated, and the point that uses small dining table as each floor in Sangdan(上壇).
