합천지역 3·1운동 연구의 현황과 과제

국문 초록

합천지역 3 · 1운동의 연구사를 검토하고 향후의 과제를 살펴보았다. 3 · 1운동은 지방 전파과정에서 폭력화되는 양상을 보인다. 합천은 삼남지역에서도 투쟁이 가장 격렬했던 곳이다. 동족부락으로 구성된 향촌질서를 기반으로 유림이 시위를 주도했다. 면 단위의 연합시위 등 지역적 연대도 특징으로 지적된다. 이곳의 3 · 1운동은 일제하 한국인의 저술에서 발견되지만 전반적인 운동상은 1960년대에 기술, 정리되었다. 이후 발간된 각종 관찬자료집을 통해 언급한 특성이 드러나기 시작했다. 그러나 전체상을 규명하거나 해석하는 구체적인 결과물이 등장한 것은 아니었다. 합천의 3 · 1운동사 연구가 새로운 성과를 제출하고 한 단계 비약한 시점은 운동 70주년을 맞은 1989년이었다. 공동연구를 통해 시위의 특징을 해석하려는 시도가 나타났다. 이어 증언 자료를 보완하여 양상과 성격을 세밀하게 분석한 논고도 발표되었다. 당해의 결과로 이 지역 3 · 1운동의 전모와 실상이 상당 부분 규명되었다. 이후 희생자의 추가 발굴 등 지역차원의 접근은 있었지만 연구 자체는 더 이상의 진전을 보지 못한 채 현재에 이르고 있다. 합천의 3 · 1운동사가 현 단계를 극복하고 성장하기 위해서는 기존의 연구결과를 심화시킬 필요가 있다. 이를 위해 주도 층인 유림과 시위 특징을 대표하는 폭력성에 대한 다면적인 분석이 요구된다. 또 대한제국기에서 일제하에 이르는 합천의 국권회복운동과 대중, 부문운동을 정리하여 그 과정에서 만세운동의 위상을 정립해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This article reviewed the history of the Mch First Independence Movement in Hapcheon and proposed challenges to research. Hapcheon was the area which was noted for the violence and the role of Confucians in March First Independence Movement (MFIM). The joint protest is also pointed out as a feature. Records of the movement here appear during the Japanese colonial rule. However, specific and historic researches were made in the 1960s. Several facts were revealed in the published data collection, but there was no research that dealt with the movement in this area intensively. The development of research for this area was in 1989, the 70th anniversary of the movement. There was an attempt which intended to interpret the features through joint researches. Theses that was detailed analyses for aspects and characteristics in this area were also published. As a result, much of the whole picture and the reality of the MFIM in this area was revealed. Since then, there has been no further progress until the present. In order for the study of the MFIM in Hapcheon to advance, it is necessary to further deepen the research results so far. For this research purpose, it is necessary to analyze the diverse aspects of leading class Confusions and characteristic violence from various angles. Also, the impact of Japan s colonial policy on the lives of the farmers in Hapcheon should be analyzed. In addition to the MFIM, it is necessary to study the social movement in Hapcheon under Japanese colonial rule. In order to solve these challenges, efforts should be made for a new historic discovery.
