구성주의에 기초한 생태교육 방법에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

생태교육은 금세기 지구 생태계의 훼손 방지와 인류의 생존을 위해서 반드시 필요한 교육 분야이다. 생태교육은 생태학을 골격으로 하는 모든 교육 프로그램으로서 야외교육과 환경교육, 생태학교육, 지구교육 등을 모두 포함한다. 생태교육의 목적은 생태소양의 증진 및 함양으로서 지구상의 생물을 살 수 있게 하는 자연 시스템을 이해하는 능력이다. 본 연구에서는 전통적인 교육 이론인 구성주의에 입각하여 생태교육의 교육방법을 탐구하고자 하였다. 또한, 본 연구의 목적은 생태교육을 실천하고자 하는 사람들에게 학습자들에게 적합한 생태교육 프로그램에 대한 정보를 제공하여 실천력을 높이고, 더불어 학습자들에게는 인지발달단계에 맞는 프로그램을 제공하여 생태소양을 함양하는 것이다. 구성주의에 기초한 생태교육의 방법으로서 학습자가 연령에 따라 거치게 되는 일정한 순서의 인지발달 단계를 바탕으로 한 생태교육의 과정과 생태교육 프로그램을 구안하였고 그 내용은 다음과 같다. 인지발달 단계에 따른 생태교육 프로그램은 인지적 영역, 정의적 영역, 행동적 영역으로 나누어 구성하였다. 우선 영유아기에는 오감을 활용하여 자연을 느끼고, 자연 속에서 최대한 많은 시간을 보내며 긍정적인 경험을 쌓으며, 생태적 감수성 및 생태시민으로서의 삶의 기초가 되는 생태에티켓을 함양하는 것으로 구성하였다. 자연에 대한 호기심이 가장 왕성한 아동기에는 그들이 각자의 미시세계에 몰입할 수 있는 여건을 마련해주고, 나 이외에 다른 생명체에 대한 존중과 배려 및 공감을 강조하여 생태적 가치관 및 태도 함양에 집중하였다. 청소년기에는 생태적 개념과 법칙에 대한 이해 및 생태적 쟁점에 대한 다면적 분석과 융합적 사고를 할 수 있는 다양한 활동이 제시되었다. 더불어 청소년기 생태교육 프로그램에 생태적 지혜, 생태적 정체성 및 가치관을 가지고 자신의 삶의 방향을 생태 중심적으로 선택할 수 있는 생태적 용기를 길러주어야 하는 내용을 담았다.

영문 초록

Ecological education is the essential branch of education for preventing ecosystem destruction and humankind survival. Ecological education as all the educational programs starting from ecology includes outdoor education, environmental education, ecology education and earth education. The goal of ecological education is enhancement and fostering ecological literacy which is ability to understand ecosystem supporting all lives on the earth. We investigated into ecological education curriculum based upon cognition improvement steps of definite order according to student ages. In infancy, children should feel nature through five senses, spend much times in nature, have positive experiences, and foster ecological sensitivity and ecological etiquettes of life basis as ecological citizens. In childhood when they are strong for curiosity to nature, conditions to be immersed in unknown worlds should be given and teachers must concentrate on teaching ecological views and attitude cultivation. In juvenile stage, teachers should give students diverse activities for understanding ecological concepts and laws and being capable of thinking integratedly and analyzing multilaterally about environmental issues. And students should be encouraged into ecological bravery selecting eco-centric lives with ecological wisdom, ecological identity and values. This study provides ecological education practitioners information on ecological education programs suitable for students and students ecological education programs fitted for cognition development steps. Above all, ecological citizens having ecological literacy will direct their own lives eco-centrically and have harmonious relations with other organisms of indentical values to human things.
