국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 사회과 지리교육내용이 학생들에게 가깝고 구체적인 생활세계를 반영하도록 하는 데 있으며, 구체적인 연구내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학습자의 경험세계와 지리교육내용을 관련지어 볼 때, 초등학생들에게 장소는 어떠한 의미를 지니는가 알아보고, 둘째, 초등학생들은 어떤 장소를 왜, 언제부터, 얼마나, 어떻게 좋아하고 있는가 살펴본 후, 셋째, 초등학생들의 장소 선호 유형이 장소학습 내용 구성에 어떠한 시사점을 제공하는지 탐색해보았다. 초등학생들의 장소 선호를 멘탈 맵 분석과 심층 면담 및 현장 면담을 중심으로 살펴 본 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 초등학생들에게 장소가 가지는 의미는 ‘경험의 총체’로 표현될 수 있다. 둘째, 초등학생들의 장소 선호를 그들만이 지닌 특징을 중심으로 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 초등학생들은 주로 친구와 함께 좋아하는 장소를 찾고, 가족들과 찾는 경우는 드물다. 또래 친구들과 어울려 노는 것만 좋아할 것 같은 아이들도 혼자서 좋아하는 장소를 찾기도 한다. 상업시설을 좋아하는 아이들에게 그 장소의 선호 정도는 어른들의 그것과는 차이가 있다. 같은 장소에서의 경험이더라도 아이들은 어른들의 그것 이상으로 스트레스를 치유하는 강도가 높다고 여겨진다. 초등학생들은 아파트라는 한정된 공간을 그들만의 장소로 재개념화한다. 셋째, 초등학생들의 장소 선호 유형은 장소학습 내용 구성에도 많은 시사점을 준다. 아이들이 의미 있는 경험을 할 수 있도록 장소 학습을 할 때 학생들에게보다 친숙하고 가까운 장소, 그리고 긍정적인 지리적 경험을 할 수 있는 장소 선정에 중점을 두어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to make geographic education of social studies reflect their close and specific world of life, and the content of its study is as follows. First, this study examined what meaning a place has to elementary school students by relating learners` world of experiences to geographical content of education. Second, this study looked at why, from when, how much, and how elementary school students like a place. Third, this study explored what suggestive points their types of preferred places provided in the composition of place learning content. Elementary school students` place preferences were examined based on deep and on-site interviews and the followings are the conclusion. First, the meaning of a place to elementary school students was the whole of experiences . Second, elementary school students` preferences to places are as follows based on their own characteristics. They mostly find their places they like with their friends and it is rare for them to find them with their family members. Sometimes children who appear to like spending time with their friends go to places they like alone. The degree of children`s preferences to commercial facilities is different from that of adults. Experiences in the same place reduce stress in children more than in adults. Elementary school students reconceptualize limited spaces of apartments as their own places. Third, elementary school students` types of place preferences give many suggestive points in constructing place learning content. Therefore, so that children can make meaningful experiences, when place learning is provided, a focus should be made on the selection of familiar and close places where positive geographical experiences may be made.
