국문 초록

뉴욕 현대미술관은 어린이 관람객을 위하여 31개 소장품에 대한 어린이 오디오가이드를 9개 국의 언어로 제공하고 있다. 본 연구는 뉴욕 현대미술관에서 제공하고 있는 어린이 오디오가 이드의 내용을 분석하여 어린이 오디오가이드의 교육적 성격을 규명하고자 하였다. 포스트 뮤지엄의 개념이 대두된 이래 미술관 교육의 지향점도 변화하게 되었는데, 포스트 뮤지엄은 오브제를 중심으로 다양한 배경과 이해를 갖는 사회 문화적 그룹들이 서로 다른 해석과 의미 를 생산하고 교환하는 것을 권장하므로 미술관 교육에서도 개인이 가진 경험적이고 해석적인 의미의 생성이 중요한 목적이 된다. 이러한 관점에서 오디오가이드 또한 일방향적 정보전달 의 도구가 아니라 관람객의 의미 형성을 촉진시키는 교육 매체로 보고 뉴욕 현대미술관의 어 린이 오디오가이드 스크립트 분석을 통해 어린이 관람객의 의미 형성을 촉진시키는 내용 요 소와 설명 전략, 발문을 도출하였다. 분석 결과 어린이 오디오가이드 스크립트는 작품의 표현 형식, 표현 내용, 표현 방법, 맥락과 관련된 내용을 다루며 이를 관람객이 직접 발견할 수 있 도록 시선을 유도하기도 하고, 의미를 확장시킬 수 있도록 보조 텍스트를 제공하기도 하였다. 또한 경험 떠올리기, 구체적인 행동 유도하기, 반응 모델링하기, 상상하기, 나만의 표현 방법 떠올리기와 같은 구체적인 설명 전략을 사용하여 관람객의 경험과 선지식을 작품과 연결시키 고 작품과 관람객의 내적 대화가 일어나도록 촉진하였다. 또한 다양한 발문과 청각적 효과를 통하여 관람경험을 보다 입체적으로 만들고 있음을 확인하였다. 이러한 분석을 바탕으로 어 린이 오디오가이드는 교육적 보조장치(instructional scaffolding)로써 어린이 관람객의 지식과 경험을 자극하고 작품을 이해할 수 있는 다양한 맥락적 정보를 제시하여 개인적인 감상경험 을 촉진시키는 도구로 정의 내렸다.

영문 초록

The Museum of Modern Art in New York City offers audio guides for its 31 collections in 9 different languages for visiting children. This study was intended to analyze the contents of audio guides offered for children by the Museum of Modern Art and examine their educational features. Since the concept of the post-museum has emerged, directions of education in museums have also changed. As the concept encourages different social and cultural groups to produce and exchange their own interpretations, education in museums also considers it an important objective to create meanings. In this respect, the study recognized audio guides as an educational medium to encourage visitors to create their own meanings, thus drawing content elements, explaining strategies by analyzing scripts of audio guides for children in the Museum of Modern Art. The result showed that scripts of audio guides for children typically deal with types, contents, methods and contexts of expressions with visual guidance for visitors to find out such details for themselves while providing supplementary texts for them to extend their own meanings. In addition, they used detailed explaining strategies such as recalling experiences, inducing precise actions, modeling reactions, imagining and thinking of one’s own expressions so that visitors can connect their experiences and prior knowledge with collections. It was also revealed that various texts and audio effects make visitor experience multi-dimensional. Based on the analysis, it was defined that audio guides for children is a device that can encourage children to enjoy individual appreciation experience by stimulating their knowledge and experience and offering a variety of contextual information as an instructional scaffolding so that they can understand collections.
