청소년센터의 대안적 학습의 특징과 교육적 시사점 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 대안교육을 표방하며 다양한 문화적 활동을 하는 한 청소년센터를 대상으로 그들의 다양한 활동을 참여관찰하고 그들과의 면담을 통하여 대안적 학습의 특징과 그로부터 교육적 시사 점을 탐색하였다. 연구 결과, 이 청소년센터는 “해 보고 싶은 것을 할 수 있고”, “평가를 공개하며”, “머리로 배우기보다는 몸으로 배우는” 대안적 학습의 특징을 나타낸다. 여기에는 청소년센터가 융 통성 있는 체제 운영을 한다는 점이 작용한다. 이로부터 자기주도적 체험학습과 질적 평가를 통한 성찰적 학습, 학습자를 지원하는 유연한 체제라는 교육적 시사점을 끌어낼 수 있었다. 이것을 학교 에 적용시켜 보면, 학교의 학습도 학생 주도적으로 이루어지는 체험학습이 되어야 하며, 학습 평가 에 질적 평가를 도입함으로써 학생들의 교육적 성장을 위한 성찰을 도모해야 하고, 학습자의 교육 적 필요와 요구에 적절히 대응해 줄 수 있는 체제로 학교가 유연해져야 한다는 것을 함의하고 있 다. 현재의 학교가 이 시사점을 좀더 적극적으로 수용할 수 있는 체제로 변모한다면, 학교교육에 대한 불만은 현저히 줄어들 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyse the features of the alternative learning in youth center and to propose suggestions on ways to improve the system. The field of this study is 'Heuimang Youth Center' in Seoul, which advocates 'alternative education'. I analysed many youths' cultural activities through participant observations and interviews in order to determine the features of the alternative learning in 'Heuimang Youth Center'. The results are as following. The features of the alternative learning in this center are 'to be able to do what I want to do', 'to open learning evaluations to the public' and 'to learn through body rather than mind'. From these, I suggest three educational points for schooling. First, the school learning has to be self-directed learning. This learning becomes lived-experiences for students. Second, evaluations of learning in school has to aim at students' educational growth. To establish this aim, qualitative evaluation methods must be considered in school evaluation. Finally, schools have to be transformed into flexible systems which can react properly to students' needs and demands. I think that many complaints of schooling will gradually be diminished if schools consider these suggestions.
