원삼국~백제 한성기 중서부지역 철도자 연구

국문 초록

철도자는 과거 사람들의 생활에 가장 밀접한 도구 중 하나였으며, 다양한 유구에서 보편적으로 출토된다. 그러나 증가되는 자료에 비해 연구대상으로 주목받지 못하였으며, 철도자 개별 유물에 대한 심도있는 연구 또한 이루어지지 않고 있다. 따라서 본고에서는 원삼국에서 백제 한성기의 한반도 중서부지역에서 출토된 철도자를 다각도로 분석함으로써 철도자의 편년과 용도 및 성격변화 등 철도자가 지닌 의미에 대하여 접근해 보고자 한다. 우선 분묘에서 출토되는 철도자는 관부의 형태에 따라 무관→편관→양관으로 변화하며, 곡배류는 한정적으로 확인된다. 원삼국시대에는 우선 무관직배형 도자와 일부지역에서 환두도자가 출토된다. 이후 무관 도자와 편관 도자가 공존하며, 편관 도자의 경우 다양한 형태의 곡배류가 나타난다. 백제 한성기에 들어서면서 무관 도자와 환두도자가 자취를 감추고, 곡배류의 출토빈도가 점차 감소한다. 이후 양관도자가 등장하며, 편관 도자와 공존하는 양상을 보인다. 배부의 형태는 대다수가 직배이며, 병부에 병연금구가 장착되는 것이 특징이다. 철도자는 기본적으로 다용도 도구임에 틀림없으나, 형태와 출토양상, 공반유물을 통해 일부는 특정 용도와 기능이 있었음을 파악할 수 있었다. 佩用砥石과 공반하는 도자는 書刀나 削刀로, 환두도와 공반하는 도자 중 일부는 子刀 또는 호신용으로 사용된 것으로 추정된다. 이외에 형태나 장식 정도에 따라 木工具, 大神刀, 착용자의 위세를 상징하는 장식도자 등으로 사용된 것도 있다. 특히 환두도자나 패용지석을 공반하는 도자의 경우 교역 또는 행정관료 등 한자에 능통한 사람이 소지했을 가능성이 크다. 또한 시간이 흐를수록 철도자에 장식적 요소가 부가되는 양상이 확인되는 것으로 보아 실용적인 것에서 점차 장신구의 일종 또는 위세품으로 변화된 것으로 파악된다.

영문 초록

The iron knife was one of the tools used from the Iron Age of the Korean Peninsula. This type of artifact has been excavated in large number and various forms have been identified. It is one of the most universal iron tools to have been excavated from various archaeological features. However, attention towards and an in-depth study of this type of artifact has been lacking. Therefore a chronological study was attempted, as well as a study on the function and development of the iron knives excavated from the central region of the Korean Peninsula, spanning from the Proto-Three Kingdoms Period to the Hanseong Baekje Period. A chronological analysis was attempted with reference to the existing pottery chronology, as well as swords with ring-shaped pommels and undecorated swords, and iron spears, etc. It was confirmed that, primarily, the developmental stages of the iron knife were based on the form of the handle: no handle →onesided handle→double-sided handle. Knives decorated with ring-shaped handles are also present, albeit limitedly. The characteristic in this step is represented cotton trace in trunk. At first knives without handles and knives with ring-shaped handles were used, after which they gradually disappeared, to be replaced by iron knives with one-sided and double-sided handles. Fundamentally, iron knives served various purposes. Their use could be interpreted according to their form, as well as their excavated context and associated artifacts. In the case of the iron knife that was associated with the whetstone that was worn, it is believed to have functioned as a writing knife or cutting knife. In the case of iron knife that was associated with the sword with ring-shaped pommel and worn whetstone, it considered to have belonged to a person who had served in government or was proficient in writing Chinese characters. As time went on, the decorative element of the iron knife increased, therefore indicating that a change from practical to decorative purposes took place.
