영문 초록

Thirty two patients with complix partial seizure, and epileptic focus in the right or left side of brain, and twenty three normal volunteers were tested using the visual half-field task performance. The patient group also completed the M innesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (M M PI). Two-letter Hangul words (Korean phonetic-based script) were presented tachistoscophically to the right or left visual field for 150msec. Then correctness and reaction time in recognition of the words recorded and analyzed to compare the groups. The results showed that the mean rate of correct response was significantly higher in the normal group, and that a right visual field (left hem isphere) superiority in correct recognition was found in the patients with right side focus ; the opposite was found for the patients with left side focus(p<0.05). Regarding reaction time, in the normal group it was significantly shorter than in the patient groups (p< 0.05). In the MMPI, both patient groups showed similar t scores on the schizophrenia(Sc) scale. But the right focus group showed a slightly higher t score on the depression(D ) scale(p < 0.1), whereas the left focus group was relatively higher on the m ania(M a) scale. These results suggest that epileptic focus caused a lateralized hemispheric dysfunction on the focus side and that right hemispheric dysfunction may be related to depression.
