노인의 아동기 외상 경험이 자살사고에 미치는 영향: 경험 회피와 고독감의 순차적 매개효과 검증

국문 초록

연구 목적 : 아동기 외상 경험은 인간의 발달 과정에서 경험 회피와 고독감에 직접적인 영향을 미치며, 이러한 요인들은 노년기의 자살사고와 밀접한 관련성을 가진다. 본 연구는 아동기 외상을 경험한 노인들의 자살사고를 효과적으로 감소시키기 위한 전략적 개입 방안을 도출하고자 한다. 이를 위해 생애 초기 경험인 아동기 외상이 노인의 자살사고에 미치는 영향을 검증하고, 나아가 경험 회피와 고독감이 이들 변인 간의 관계를 매개하는지 실증적으로 규명하고자 한다. 연구 내용 및 방법 : 연구 대상자는 아동기에 양육자로부터 애착 외상을 경험한 만 65세 이상 200명으로 온라인상에서 모집하였다. 자료는 아동기 외상 경험, 자살사고, 경험 회피, 및 고독감 척도를 사용하여 자기보고식 설문을 통해 수집하였고, Hayes의 Process Macro model 6을 이용하여 노인의 아동기 외상 경험과 자살사고와의 관계에서 경험 회피와 고독감의 매개효과를 분석하였다. 결론 및 제언 : 경험 회피와 고독감은 각각 노인의 아동기 외상 경험과 자살사고와의 관계를 매개하는 것으로 검증되었다. 또한 아동기 외상 경험과 자살사고와의 관계에서 경험 회피와 고독감의 순차적 매개효과가 검증되었다. 매개효과에서 경험 회피가 고독감보다 더 우선하였다. 이러한 결과는 아동기 외상 경험이 있더라도 경험을 회피하지 않도록 돕고, 이로 인해 고독감을 덜 경험하게 하여 자살사고 수준을 감소시킬 수 있음을 보여준다. 연구 결과를 토대로 기독교교육 관점에서 아동기 외상 경험을 지닌 노인의 자살사고 감소를 위한 프로그램 개발에 있어 경험 회피와 고독감 수준 감소를 위한 회기를 포함시킬 것이 제안되었다.

영문 초록

Childhood trauma experiences significantly influence experiential avoidance and loneliness during developmental processes, which in turn affect suicidal ideation in the elderly. This study aims to develop intervention strategies to reduce suicidal ideation among elderly individuals who have experienced childhood trauma. Specifically, the research examines whether early life experiences of childhood trauma influence suicidal ideation in the elderly, and furthermore, investigates whether experiential avoidance and loneliness mediate the relationship between these variables. The study participants consisted of 200 men and women aged 65 and older who experienced attachment trauma from their caregivers during childhood. The research data were collected through an online questionnaire of scales measuring childhood trauma, suicidal ideation, experiential avoidance, and loneliness. The mediating effects of experiential avoidance and loneliness in the relationship between childhood trauma and late-life suicidal ideation were analyzed using Hayes’ Process Macro model 6. The study verified that both experiential avoidance and loneliness independently mediated the relationship between childhood trauma experiences and suicidal ideation in the elderly. Additionally, the sequential mediating effects of experiential avoidance and loneliness were confirmed in the relationship between childhood trauma experiences and suicidal ideation. In the mediation process, experiential avoidance preceded loneliness. These findings demonstrate that even in the presence of childhood trauma experiences, helping individuals avoid experiential avoidance and consequently reducing their experience of loneliness can lead to decreased levels of suicidal ideation. Based on the research findings, it is suggested that intervention sessions aimed at reducing experiential avoidance and loneliness should be incorporated into the development of programs for reducing suicidal ideation among older adults with childhood trauma from a Christian education perspective.
