국문 초록

예이츠의 희곡은 시에 비해 잘 알려져 있지 않고 공연을 자주 볼 수도없다. 이 글은 예이츠 희곡의 가치를 옹호하기 위해 그동안 예이츠의 희곡이 소홀히다루어진 이유 및 배경을 찾아보고 예이츠가 연극을 통해 이루고자 하는 지향점을 밝히는 일이다. 예이츠 희곡의 가치를 옹호하는 한 가지 방법으로써 학자와 비평가들이예이츠 희곡을 폄하한 구체적인 이유를 분석하여 그 정당성 여부를 따져봄으로써 예이츠 연극의 본질과 특징을 파악하고자 한다.

영문 초록

Though Yeats was a prolific playwright throughout his life, describing hisliterary achievements in terms of the dramatic, it cannot be said that Yeats has hadhigh reputation as a playwright. His plays have been underestimated by moderncritics. In defense of the value of his plays, the paper analyzes and refutes critics’arguments.
