비모수적 접근법에 의한 저비용 항공사의 생산성 평가와 개선 방안

국문 초록

항공운송산업의 잠재적인 시장 규모가 커지고, 대한항공과 아시아나항공이 통합되어 저비용 항공사들의 재편을 앞두고 있다. 이에본 연구는 국내 저비용 항공사(LCC: Low Cost Carrier)들의 생산성을 분석하고 향상 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 항공정보포털시스템의 2019~2024년 동안의 항공 통계 자료를 활용하였다. 제주항공(JJA), 진에어(JNA), 에어부산(ABL), 티웨이항공(TWB), 에어서울(ASV)의 생산성을 비모수적(non-parametric) 방법인 맘퀴스트 생산성 지수(MPI: Malmquist Productivity Index)를 이용하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 국내선의 경우 MPI를 기간별로 비교했을 때 전체적으로는 MPI가 평균적으로 1.09% 만큼 감소하였다. MPI를 분해하면, TCI(0.9873)가 TECI(1.0019) 보다 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 저비용 항공사별로 MPI를살펴보면, 에어부산(ABL), 에어서울(ASV), 제주항공(JJA), 티웨이항공(TWB), 진에어(JNA) 순으로 높은 생산성 지수를 지녔다. 둘째, 국제선의 경우 MPI를 기간별로 살펴보면 전반적인 MPI는 3.71% 만큼 증가하였다. 이러한 MPI는 TCI(1.0313)가 TECI(1.0056) 보다 큰 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 저비용 항공사별로 MPI를 비교하면, 진에어(JNA), 에어부산(ABL), 에어서울(ASV), 티웨이항공(TWB), 제주항공(JJA) 순으로 높게 나타났다. 이 연구는 서비스 기업의 생산성 관리가 중요한데도 불구하고 선행연구들이 미흡한상황에서 저비용 항공사들의 생산성을 살펴봤다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다.

영문 초록

The potential market size of the air transportation industry is growing, and the merger of Korean Air and Asiana Airlines is leading to a reorganization of low cost carriers. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the productivity of domestic low cost carriers (LCCs) and find ways to improve productivity. For this purpose, this study used aviation statistical data from the Aviation Information Portal System from 2019 to 2024. The productivity of Jeju Air (JJA), Jin Air (JNA), Air Busan (ABL), T'way Air (TWB), and Air Seoul (ASV) was analyzed using the Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI), a non-parametric approach. The analysis results are as follows. First, in the case of domestic flights, when comparing MPI by period, overall MPI decreased by 1.09% on average. When decomposing MPI, TCI (0.9873) had a greater impact than TECI (1.0019). When looking at the MPI by low cost carrier, Air Busan (ABL), Air Seoul (ASV), Jeju Air (JJA), T'way Air (TWB), and Jin Air (JNA) had high productivity index in that order. Second, in the case of international flights, when looking at the MPI by period, the overall MPI increased by 3.71%. It was found that TCI (1.0313) had a greater impact on MPI than TECI (1.0056). When comparing the MPI by low cost carrier, Jin Air (JNA), Air Busan (ABL), Air Seoul (ASV), T'way Air (TWB), and Jeju Air (JJA) had high productivity index in that order. This study has implications in that it examines the productivity of low cost carriers in a situation where previous studies are insufficient despite the importance of productivity management in service companies.
