집단 의사결정 과정에 나타난 초등학생들의 동조 현상

국문 초록

본 연구는 초등학생들의 집단 의사결정 과정에서 나타난 동조 현상을 분석하여 동조가 갖는 의미를 밝히고자 하였다. D초등학교 6학년 학생들의 의사결정 사례를 통해 의사결정 과정에서 나타나는 동조를 분석하여 동조 이해에 주는 시사점을 도출하였다. 연구 참여자들의 동조 특성이 동조 이해에 주는 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 동조는 긍정적으로 해석될 수 있다. 동조를 ‘인식의 변화에 따른 선택’과 ‘주체적 판단의 결과’로 바라보면, 동조는 긍정적인 요소를 가진다. 둘째, 동조는 의사결정 상황에 따라 다른 의미를 가진다. 개인은 최종 결정된 의견의 내용에 동의하여 동조하기도 하고, 동의하지 않더라도 동조하기도 한다. 셋째, 개인의 침묵이 동조 반응에 해당하지 않는 경우도 있다. 일관된 동의 표현이거나 무사유의 상태를 보여주는 침묵은 동조 반응에 해당하지 않는다. 넷째, 의사결정 해야할 주제에 따라 동조는 다르게 나타난다. 중요한 선택의 문제가 아닌 상황을 다루는 주제의 경우, 다른 의견에 따르는 것을 승패의 문제로 여겨 동조하지 않으려 한다. 최종 결정된 의견이 구성원에게 큰 영향을 미치는 주제의 경우, 개인은 자신의 입장을 강하게 주장하며 동조하지 않으려 한다. 다섯째, 의사결정에서 동조한 학생들은 적합한 결과나 정당한 절차를 기준으로 삼으며 동조 결과를 판단한다. 적합한 결과를 기준으로 삼는 경우 ‘의견의 내용’을, 정당한 절차를 기준으로 삼는 경우 의사결정의 ‘절차’에 주목한다. 본 연구는 초등학생들의 집단 의사결정 과정에서 나타나는 동조를 분석하여 동조를 이해하고 해석하는 데에 새로운 관점을 제시하고자 했다. 이러한 시도가 교사들과 학생들이 사회를 살아가는 하나하나의 개인을 존중하고 서로의 다름을 포용하는 방식을 마련하는 데에 도움이 되기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study studied the aspects of conformity in the elementary school students’ decision-making process, in order to show meanings of conformity in the decision-making process. A case of group decision-making of 6 grade students in an elementary school were used to analyze the aspects of conformity to derive suggestions on how to understand it. The patterns of conformity in this study participants were shown as follows. First, a conformity was shown as the result of expansion of informations. Second, students followed majority opinion because they judged it as ‘a fair decision.’ Third, students kept silent when they felt diffident. Fourth, peer pressure lead to unwanted consequences when taken seriously. Fifth, students who have a strategy followed other opinion though they disagreed on it. Sixth, students considered the minority opinions as the way of respecting students who have them instead of giving pressure to change their opinions. Seventh, students suggested new alternatives to compensate the defects. Eighth, subjects of decision-making affected students’ decision-making. The implications for understanding conformity are as follows. First, it has possibility to be being interpreted in positive meaning. As ‘a choice after changes of cognition’ and ‘a result of subjective judgement’, the conformity has positive aspects. Second, conformity has different meanings depending on the decision-making situation. Third, some silence does not mean conformity. When silence appears as a result of agreement from the first or as unthoughtfulness in decision-making process, it does not mean conformity. The study analyzed examples of elementary students' group decision-making process and showed the reasons why various conformities occur and their meanings in the decision-making process. I hope these findings will give teachers and students ideas of respecting each others and standing in someone’s shoes.
