이 논문의 목적은 수사적 질문인 갈라디아서 3:1의 소통과정을 연구하는 것이다. 이 문장은 사실, 언어학적으로 맥락적 해석을 요구하는 화용적 표현이다. 그럼에도, 인지언어학 연구에 따르면 의미론적으로 분석할 수 있다. 어떤 표현의 의미는, 그것의 사전적 정의가 불가능할지라도, 그 의미를 형성하고 일관성 있게 해 주는 광범위하고다면적인 개념적 기저를 전제하기 때문이다. 그 기저란, 선행 담화를통해 환기된 개념이거나, 종교, 문화, 사회에 맥락에 대한 사전지식이다. 이 기저는 어휘해석과 의미합성의 환경을 제공한다. (담화)발신자는 이 개념적 기저를 통해 언어를 문법화하고, 수신자는 이 기저를통해 이 문법화된 언어를 이해한다. 한편 인간의 인지과정은 이런개념요소들을 합성/통합하거나 윤곽부여 함으로써 마음속에서 그 의미를 파악하고 확장시킨다. 인지언어학의 관점에서, 문법은 개념적의미를 상징화한 것이다. 인간의 마음속 개념체계는 언어현상의 은유와 환유처럼 구조화된다. 그러므로, 인지언어학 이론인 개념적 은유 이론과 개념적 환유 이론, 개념 혼성 이론은 성경 텍스트를 통해의미를 발견하는 우리들에게 많은 도움을 줄 수 있다. 우리는 갈라디아서 3:1의 담화 참여자들 사이에 공유된 언어적, 비언어적 정보들이 그들의 개념구조 속에서 어떻게 사상하는지를 발견해야 한다. 그를 위해 발신자와 그의 대적자, 수신자에 대한 정보들과 근접 텍스트(co-text)의 정보들을 살펴보는 것이 중요하다. 그리고 그 개념 정보들의 사상과정을 살펴보고 종합함으로써, 우리는 갈라디아서 3:1의 확장된 의미를 파악할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to examine the communicative process in Galatians 3:1, focusing on its rhetorical question. While Galatians 3:1 is a pragmatic expression requiring contextual interpretation, cognitive linguistics allows us to analyze such specialized expressions through general semantics. The meaning of certain expressions is grounded in conceptual frameworks that give them coherence and significance beyond simple dictionary definitions. These concepts may be derived from previous discourse or embedded in religious, cultural, or social contexts, forming the basis for word interpretation and meaning synthesis. Speakers use these conceptual foundations to structure their language, while listeners rely on them to understand grammaticalized messages. Human cognition integrates or emphasizes various elements like prior discourse, religion, culture, and social context to recognize and expand meaning. In cognitive linguistics, grammar is viewed as a representation of conceptual meaning. The human mind's conceptual system is structured similarly to metaphors and metonymies found in linguistic expressions. Thus, cognitive linguistic theories such as conceptual metaphor, metonymy, and blending are valuable tools for uncovering meaning in biblical texts. To comprehend how verbal and non-verbal information exchanged between participants in the Galatians 3:1 discourse aligns with their conceptual frameworks, we must analyze the sender (Paul), his opponents, the recipients, and the surrounding textual context. By mapping and synthesizing this information, we can uncover the deeper meaning of Galatians 3:1.
