국문 초록

포스트 코로나 바이러스 시대를 맞이한 한국 기독교는 성장을 멈춘 채 어려운 현실에 처해 있다. 많은 사람들이 한국 교회에 부정적인 현실에서 새로운 도약의 계기를 마련해야 하는데, 그것은 무엇보다 영성 형성의 과제와 관련이 있다. 본 논문에서 연구 주제로 다루는 해방의 영성은 라틴 아메리카 해방신학의 아버지인 구스타보 구티에레즈(Gustavo Gutierrez)에 의해 주창된 독특한 개념이다. 해방의 영성은 성서와 전통을 중시하면서도 라틴 아메리카가 처했던 억압, 고난, 가난과 같은 비참한 상황과의 연관을 중시한다. 특히 해방의 영성은 눌린 사람들과 억압받는 사람들을 해방하는 하나님의 역사에 직접 참여하며, 하나님과 이웃을 향한 사랑의 실천을 강조한다. 본 논문은 라틴 아메리카에서 태동한 ‘해방의 영성’을 연구의 주제로 삼고, 구티에레즈의 저서를 중심으로 논의를 전개한다. ‘해방의 영성’은 가난한 이웃을 섬기고, 불의한 사회를 비판하고 정의를 실현하는 것을 영적 과제로 제시한 ‘예언자적-비판적’ 영성의 대표적인 예이다. ‘해방의 영성은’ 낮은 데서부터, 가난한 자, 빼앗긴 자, 변두리 인생들의 관점에서 보는 해방신학의 영성적 토대가 되었다. ‘해방의 영성’이야말로 개인적, 내면적 영성에만 집중하고 있는 한국 교회가 사회 현실에 보다 적극적으로 관심을 기울이고 사회적 약자를 돌볼 수 있도록 새로운 통찰과 활력을 불어넣을 수 있는 좋은 예가 될 것이다. 본 논문 전반부에서는 먼저 전통적인 영성 개념을 살펴보고, 이에 대한 구티에레즈의 비판 및 그가 제시하는 영성 개념을 살펴본다. 구티에레즈는 전통적인 기독교 영성의 개인주의적이고 엘리트주의적인 측면을 비판한다. 그리고 이런 관점이 참된 기독교적 영적 체험과 직관을 왜곡했을 뿐 아니라 기독교 영성을 사유화했다고 평가한다. 구티에레즈는 이런 비판 위에서 라틴 아메리카의 현실에서 태동된 해방의 영성을 새로운 영성으로 제시한다. 본 논문 후반부에서는 해방의 영성의 역사적 배경 및 개념과 특징에 대해 상세히 살펴본다. 해방의 영성은 성서적이고, 그리스도 중심적이며, 현실 체험에서 비롯되는 귀납적 영성이고, 예언자적-비판적 영성의 특징을 가지고 있다. 해방의 영성은 몇 가지 주요 주제들을 중심으로 설명될 수 있다. 그것들은 회심, 무상성, 기쁨, 영적 어린이, 공동체라는 주제들이다. 해방의 영성은 이런 개념들을 통해 개인과 공동체 및 세상 한가운데서 전개되며 적극 실천된다. 결론에서는 본 연구의 의의와 한계를 지적하고, 한국 교회 영성 형성의 문제와 관련하여 앞으로 더 연구해야 할 과제를 제시한다.

영문 초록

The Korean Protestant Church does not grow any longer in the society where many people do not like Christianity. This reality is related to the issue of spiritual formation. The spirituality of liberation is a new concept developed by Gustavo Gutierrez, a pioneer of Liberation Theology in Latin America. The spirituality of liberation emphasizes its connection with the miserable context of oppression, suffering, and poverty, following the biblical and Christian tradition. In particular, the spirituality of liberation tries to participate in the work of God who liberates the oppressed and the poor in history, emphasizing the practice of love for God and neighbors. This article studies the spirituality of liberation as a main theme, focusing on Gutierrez’s works. The spirituality of liberation is a typical example of prophetic-critical spirituality that focuses on serving our neighbors, criticizing the society, and realizing God’s justice. The spirituality of liberation functions as a spiritual foundation of Liberation Theology which analyzes the reality of society from the perspective of the lowly, the poor, the deprived, and the marginalized people. The spirituality of liberation can vitalize the Korean Church which centers around the individualistic and inner-centered spirituality. In the first part of this article, the author explores traditional concepts of spirituality and Gutierrez’s criticism of them. Gutierrez presents his own concept of spirituality, criticizing individualism and elitism of traditional spirituality which distorted genuine spiritual experiences and perspectives of Christians and privatized Christian spirituality. On the basis of that criticism, Gutierrez presents the spirituality of liberation that emerged in the context of Latin America. In the last part of this article, the author studies the historical background, the characteristics, and the concept, and the themes of the spirituality of liberation. It can be said that the spirituality of liberation is a biblical, Christ-centered, inductive, and prophetic-critical spirituality. The spirituality of liberation can be explained by the four main concepts: conversion, gratuitousness, joy, spiritual childhood, and community. In conclusion, the author summarizes this article and suggests the themes for further studies.
