국문 초록

본 논문은 종말론에 관한 과학과 신학의 대화는 인간 문화의 성취가 가지는 종말론적 시사점을 주목하면서 서로 다른 두 담론 체계를 조율하는 상호 작용 방법론으로서 문화적 존재론을 활용해야 한다는 점을 주장한다. 서로 다른 관찰, 해석, 이론의 개념을 가지는 두 담론 체계는 비판적 실재론과 창조적 상호 작용 방법론을 활용하면서 동일한 탐구 대상과 유사한 방법론을 공유하는 방식으로 서로를 대화에 맞게 조율할 수 있다. 과학과 신학 대화에서 문화적 존재론의 문제는 과학과 신학 각자 공동체 구성원이 전승을 통해 공유하는 상징 체계와 그 공동체적 삶의 조건의 사회적 구성의 문제, 그리고 포괄적인 문화적 배경을 고려하면서 과학-신학 사이 경계의 재규정과 상호 작용을 촉진한다. 하나님의 종말론적 공동 창조자로서 인간 문화는 그 자체로 종말론적 시사점을 가지며 자기비판과 학제 간 상호 작용을 촉진하는 대화의 조건과 상황을 마련한다. 이에 따라서 종말론에 관한 대화에서 기호학, 우주론, 문학적 상상력 등 다양한 문화적 존재론을 구성하는 상징 체계들에 대한 반성은 인간 문화를 통한 종말론적 완성을 위한 방향성을 제시하며 이는 곧 양자 간의 상호 작용을 더욱 촉진한다.

영문 초록

This paper argues that the dialogue between science and theology on eschatology should utilize cultural ontology as an interactive method to reconcile two different discourse systems, while focusing on the eschatological implications of human cultural achievement. The two discursive systems of science and theology, which have different concepts of observation, interpretation, and theory, can be brought into dialog with each other by resorting to critical realism and a creative interaction method, as they share identical objects and similar methods of inquiry. In science-theology dialogue, cultural ontology promotes the redefinition of the boundaries and interaction between science and theology, considering the symbolic systems shared by both communities’ members through tradition, the social construction of the conditions of their collective life, and their broader cultural contexts. As God’s eschatological co-creator, human culture has its own eschatological implications and creates conditions and contexts for dialogue that promote self-criticism and interdisciplinary interaction. Therefore, when addressing eschatology, a reflection on the symbolic systems of science and theology that constitute various cultural ontologies-semiotics, cosmologies, literary imagination provides the direction for eschatological fulfillment through human culture and facilitates mutual interaction between the two.
