당과 백제 불교 교류에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

현존하는 일본 홍인본『문관사림』에는“정관년중백제왕위로조서”가 수록되어 있다. 조서의 사료적 가치는 국내외 학계에서 높은 관심을 받고 있으며, 많은 저서가 관련되어 해석되고 있다. 그러나 조서에서 언급한 당나라와 백제 불교의 교류에 대해 주목하는 학자는 거의 없다. 본고는 백제왕이 학문승을 당나라에 파견하는 상소를 올린 것으로부터 착수하고, 이 시기에 당나라 도읍인 장안이 중국화 불교의 부화지이자 새로운 전파원으로서, 동아시아 왜국, 신라 및 백제 승려들의 구법순례를 끌어들였던 성황을 탐구한다. 백제왕이 백제의 승려 지조（智照）에게 귀국을 요구한 것이나, 당의 명의（名医）인 장원창（蒋元昌）을 백제로 초청한 것이나, 당 태종이 고구려를 정벌한 이후 당와 백제의 관계가 냉랭해진 것 등에 대해서도 예리하게 분석하고 있다. 20세기 중엽 충청남도 부여읍에서 발견된 <사택지적비>의 문제점에 대해서도 자신의 견해를 제시한다.

영문 초록

The extant Hong’ren version of “Wen Guan Ci Lin”(文馆词林) in Japan contains the “Imperial Edict of Comforting the King of Baekje in the year of Zhenguan”(贞观年中抚慰百济王诏). The historical value of this edict as a material has been highly recognized by scholars from both China and abroad, and a number of writings have already referred to it or interpreted it. However, few scholars pay attention to the Buddhist communications between Tang and Baekje mentioned in this edict. This article starts from the incident of the king of Baekje’s petition to send learned monks to Tang, and discusses the grand situation of Chang’an, the capital of Tang Empire, as the incubation place and a new dissemination source of Chineseized Buddhism in this period, which attracted the monks of Japan, Silla, and Baekje to come to seek the Dharma; and analyses of the king’s request for the return of the monk Zhizhao(智照) to his homeland, the invitation of the famous Tang doctor Jiang Yuanchang(蒋元昌) to Baekje, and the deterioration of the relationship between Tang and Baekje after the crusade of the Goguryeo by Emperor Taizong of Tang are also made. This article also gives an opinion on the issues involved in the tablet inscription “Sha Zhai Zhi Ji Bei”(砂宅智积碑), which was found in Buyeo-eup, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea in the middle of the 20th century.
